For those of you who like the Beach Boys harmony and prefer the balad style songs instead of the surf/rod variety, this is an incredible collection. The first 11 tunes are OK, if you like songs about cars, but starting with "Sandy" this collection becomes a great BeachBoyesque tribute. "Ronny" even admits, in the liner notes, that they were always trying to imitate the Beach Boys. Take "If I Had My Way" and put it on Pet Sounds, take "When Stars Shine Bright" and add it to SMiLE, and add "Goodbye Baby" too. "I'll Think of Summer" would fit right in to any earlier BB album. Yeah, there are some geeky lyrics in there, but hey, they were young and in love. I'm NOT saying this music is anywhere near Brian Wilson, but the sound is incredibly close. "Ronny" caught plenty of the California spirit in Nashville. If you like the old summer ballads with a bunch of white boys singing really high, tight harmony, check out this collection.

If you're a fan of the Califormia music craze of the sixties, then you shouldn't be without this CD in your collection. This group is one of many who made it big during the decade although the scene was dominated by the Beach Boys and Jan & Dean. Of course, their greatest hit "Little GTO" is included here along with the mellow and touching "Sandy"; along with other selections both old and new fans will appreciate upon listening.

The Love songs included in the cd are just excellent renditions of the group. I hope some new artists of today like the Backstreet Boys may have time to review it. This is an excellent suggestion to have the gap filled from the 60's to the 90's.
The only disappointment I have is to ask - Where is the song "Baby Say No"?
Sit, relax and enjoy the cd.

Really brings back memories of the surfer years, woody wagons and the babes on the beach. I almost forgot how good and simple those years were. Makes me want to just fade into the background and escape to the beach with my surf board.

Anyone who is heavily into collecting original chart-making Golden Oldies hits of all shapes and forms know that, among the most difficult to find are those that were issued by Bell/Mala/Amy. Arthur Shimkin launched Bell in 1`952 in New York City, and in 1959 added Mala as a subsidiary, followed in 1960 by Amy. Each had its fair share of nationally-charted songs, but finding those on quality CDs has been extremely difficult at best, let alone some of their other excellent releases that did not chart for various reasons. Certainly, I have never run across box-sets or series dealing with their catalogue such as those we have seen for so many other independent labels that existed back then, other than inferior bootleg compilations whose sound quality was about as bad as anything you'd hear from a beat-up LP or 45 rpm single.

One of the groups that toiled for the trio of labels was the Nashville-based Ronny & The Daytonas - vocalist/guitarist John "Bucky" Wilkin (the "Ronny" of the band), vocalist/guitarist Paul Jensen, bassist/guitarist Thomas Ramey, guitarist Lee Kraft, and drummer Lynn Williams - who at times were joined in the studio by organist Larry Butler, vocalists James "Buzz" Cason (who had a 1960 hit with Look For A Star as Garry Miles), Bobby Russell and Johnny MacRea, a backing vocalist with Bobby "Boris" Pickett's Crypt-Kickers. From 1964 to 1966 they placed 5 songs on the Billboard Pop Hot 100, the first 4 for Mala, and to this day it's impossible to find all four and their B-sides in one quality CD compilation. Even finding their two Top 30 hits in an all-encompassing multiple-artist series such as Ace of London's Golden Age Of American Rock 'N' Roll and lesser-quality series like Discovered and Hey! Look What I Found is impossible.

New CD of old 60's tunes. Great gift for the old man who wants to relive the past. Good quality sound. Highly recommend if you like beach and car music from the 60's.
