Guaifenesin has worked for me,
By
This review is from: The Guaifenesin Guide: For Treating Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (Paperback)
Hi Tim Cunningham, I am an actual user and I have been helped by taking Guaifenesin. I too, like the others got real sick when I first started taking it, but that is to be expected when you are doing a detox of any kind if you don't start taking a substance gradually. I have found that is very important to build up gradually with guaifenesin. I was taking too much (for me) initially and it caused even worse pain than I was already having in addition to brain fog so bad that I had to take an incomplete on a class in a master's program in which I am enrolled (Health Education). At any rate, I finally figured out to just start with a very low dose. All the pills come in 400mg sizes minimum, so I had to chop them up and take, at first no more than 60mg/day for a couple weeks. I buy the generic Walgreens brand. It is called Walgreen's Mucus Relief Chest Congestion (Guaifenesin 400mg). Make sure the guaifenesin you get, that is the only ingredient and make sure it is not the time release form which has been shown not to work.Any of you reading this, please search for my other post on here. Guaifenesin definitely did help me. My pain was so bad in my hip joints and lower back that I could barely walk and now I have gotten rid of it. It is true that this might not work for some, but with doctor's supervision people should at least try before they discount it. If you get bad pain from taking it, like I did, it probably means that you are starting out with too high of a dose. So take about 1/8 to 1/6th of a pill per day and take it with meals since it is not time released and if you are having problems getting rid of phosphorous, that is when you will get an influx of it when you eat. Tim Cunningham is right about glutamate. It will overexcite nerves, so avoid any glutamate containing foods like the plague. Manufacturers know that MSG has a bad name now so they are covering it up with other substances that are chemically the same as MSG. Avoid HYDROLYZED SOY PROTEIN, HYDROLYZED YEAST EXTRACT, AUTOLYZED YEAST EXTRACT, MSG, pretty much anything that has yeast extract or is fermented (aged cheese, alcohol). Also avoid taking calcium supplements if you have this problem as all calcium you take will not go to your bones, but to your soft tissue and joints. Calcium increases firing of muscles and nerves and as such can cause pain. Much in the same way that MSG does, since Glutamate excites nerves as well. Also avoid anything with aspartame and aspartate in them as these substances are "excitotoxins" just like glutamate. There is even a book called excitotoxins. I recommend that people buy it. http://www.amazon.com/Excitotoxins-Taste-Russell-L-Blaylock/dp/0929173252 Another thing, stay away from canned foods that have CALCIUM CHLORIDE as a preservative. People with fibromyalgia are overly sensitive to calcium as I have stated and this too can cause pain. It did for me. I used to love to eat S&W kidney beans, but then I noticed that whenever I ate them, my hip and back pain got worse and then I tried self made kidney beans, no problem. From my own personal experience, calcium supplements cause bad pain. Stay away from them. And yet another thing :). Do not drink any beverage from aluminum containers. Aluminum draws calcium to it so it will end up in soft tissues. Another book I recommend is Calcification http://www.amazon.com/Calcification-Aging-Factor-defuse-calcium/dp/184728633X And as far as the glutamate. Its an excitatory neurotransmitter that can convert to GABA Gamma Amino Butyric Acid which is a calming(inhibitory) neurotransmitter. People with fibromyalgia have an excess of glutamate and a deficiency of GABA. In order to make glutamate transform into GABA (which is calming) our bodies use B6 (pyridoxine), so a deficiency of B6 can cause more glutamate buildup and pain symptoms. If you are going to take B vitamins, though, it is best to take a B Complex (meaning the vitamin has all the B vitamins). This is because in nature, all the B vitamins are found together and if you take one by itself,it can cause an imbalance and deficiency of the others. Ask your doctor first, but I recommend to take Country Life Co Enzyme B complex (2 capsules/day). With it, take Vitamin A 10,000 IU= RDA, vitamin C 500mg 4/day, and Magnesium Citrate (Solgar Brand 2/day for an RDA of 400mg). If you are sensitive and can only take one of these, the heavy hitter is the B Complex as the B vitamins are the most important for your nerves. Also people can be sensitive to Magnesium Citrate as it causes Calcium to leave soft tissues and if you take too much to start, the calcium out of soft tissue/joints detox can be painful as it was for me. So maybe cut up the pills and start with 50mg-100mg day. Or you can buy a product called Magnesium Oil (do not eat or drink) and rub this oil on the parts of your body that are sore. This is also good for absorption and a gentler way to start taking magnesium. Most people think magnesium is a diuretic and it is, if taken in the Magnesium Oxide form because the body cannot tolerate the oxide, but magnesium citrate will only act as a diuretic if you take over the RDA amount of 400mg/day. Always remember to start off any vitamin or medication with 1/2 or 1/4 of the dose if you are sensitive until you know how it reacts on you. Magnesium can make some people a little hyper as it is used in the production of dopamine for our bodies. It is also used to enervate lymph system vessels and arteries and veins, so it can help out with leg swelling. It can also help with restless leg syndrome and coldness and cold feet and it helps with pain as it reduces electrical firing of the nerves. Magnesium also is used by the body to make Calcitonin which is a hormone which helps the body absorb and keep calcium in the bones and out of the soft tissues. Another good book: The Magnesium Miracle by Doctor Carolyn Dean http://www.amazon.com/Magnesium-Miracle-Carolyn-Dean/dp/034549458X As far as the GABA agonists that Tim Cunningham mentions, they only served to give me very bad headaches as bad as the MSG. This is probably because people who have toxin build up in their lymph system like myself need at least some level of glutamate to help enervate the lymph vessels so they can clear properly since they get so muddy and backed up. If you have bags under your eyes, that is an indication that your lymph system is overloaded and not clearing properly. Opiods over time can also cause the lymph system not to clear toxins well and the problem is only exacerbated. Opiods also cause dependency, loss of appetite, and constipation. At any rate, to anyone out there, keep doing your own research. We are all different and Tim Cunningham's comments might help you and mine might help you or not. The important thing is DO NOT GIVE UP!!! You know your own body. Do selective eating (eating only one type of food at a time and see how it makes you feel) start any meds or vitamins slowly and with lowest dose possible and build up. Also remember any detox effort can cause a bit of discomfort and if you have pain with the guaifenesin, just lower the dose. It might not work for you, but that does not mean something else will not. With any pain, unrest and toxins can be culprits, so try to relax however you can and have fun, drink at least 8 glasses water per day to help flush out toxins and exercise as it helps the lymph system to clear toxins. Swimming is best as that also pulls toxins out through the skin. Epsom salt baths in warm water for 30 minutes are good too (2 cups epsom salt or 1 cup epsom salt/1 box baking soda). Do not take more than 3 baths per week because you can get dehydrated. Always drink lots of water before and after bath. Another thing, Ionic foot baths can help as well because they pull toxins out through the feet. I have tried them and they have helped me. If you like them, it would be best to buy your own foot bath. They are about $500 but to go to a spa, it costs from $40 to $60 a time and the foot bath would quickly pay for itself. The last thing to know: A good medical research website is pubmed [...]. It is a search engine for scientific medical studies published in peer reviewed medical journals. I am 48 and have many autoimmune problems (fibromyalgia, chemical sensitivity, chronic fatigue, rheumatoid arthritis) and have had type 1 diabetes for over 30 years and I have done my own research for myself and I am now in good health and can now walk at least 2 miles every day if not more. Good Luck. Anyway, I hope this helps some people. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at hotstonesf@gmail.com

A double blind study showed Guai does not get rid of phosphates nor does it get rid of fibromyalgia. If it does anything, it may thin out toxins in the body in some people and make people's bodies healthier, thus they may feel less pain over time. I know tons of people that were up to 3000mg a day and didn't get well. Of course, they will say "you must be taking salicylates!". That is just another money maker to buy salyclate free products. There is no way a dab of makeup on your face would block guai. Just stupid if you know anything about chemistry. Here is the truth about fibromyalgia...it is caused by toxins, either by environment, food, infections etc...throw in genetic make-up and you have a body now that is inflamed that then releases glutamate, which affects the NMDA receptors. They get firing and create a feedback loop of more pain, more glutamate, more pain etc..if you have one neurotransmitter excited, then others must become inhibited...in fibromyalgia, GABA and OPIOID receptors become inhibited. Those 2 help calm the body and help pain. They now aren't working, so you really feel pain. We are the canaries in the coal mine. The environment has done a number on our neurotransmitters. Take meds that get to the source. Take DM to calm NMDA. Take Gabitril to enhance GABA and take an opioid to get your opioids going again. Throw your guaifenesin books in the trash. They are worthless.
