4.0 out of 5 stars Effective Expectorant - with (for me) a mild side effect.
This brand of Guaifenesin is an effective expectorant, though since it contains 400 mg of the active ingredient, as compared to 600 mg for Musinex, I need to take 3 pills, as compared to 2 for the name brand, per dose, and unlike the far more expensive Musinex, I experience a flushed feeling especially in my face and scalp for about 10 minutes after dosing, caused, I...

3.0 out of 5 stars Update: Great side effect: No more snoring!
Update to my review from 2009:
I have found the same product for much cheaper at my local Costco: a bottle of Kirkland "Mucus Relief Chest Guaifenesin 400 mg, 200 tablets" for $11.55 ($0.06/400 mg tablet) instead of this ProHealth product of 100 tablets for ~$20 ($0.20/400 mg tablet). The ProHealth is over 3 times the price! And the Kirkland brand tablets are MUCH...

This brand of Guaifenesin is an effective expectorant, though since it contains 400 mg of the active ingredient, as compared to 600 mg for Musinex, I need to take 3 pills, as compared to 2 for the name brand, per dose, and unlike the far more expensive Musinex, I experience a flushed feeling especially in my face and scalp for about 10 minutes after dosing, caused, I imagine by one or more of the 'inactive' ingredients. I do, however plan on re-ordering more soon. By the way, I asked my primary care physician and my ENT specialist if they could pin-point the offending ingredient(s), and they had no idea.

Thank you,

The ProHealth is over 3 times the price! And the Kirkland brand tablets are MUCH easier to swallow.

The price at my local Costco is currently cheaper, btw, than buying the same Kirkland bottle on amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Kirkland-Signature-Expectorant-Guaifenesin-Immediate-Release/dp/B002RL8FIE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1291354212&sr=1-1)

======================

First, my product review

Pros:
- Eliminates my snoring! (see below, your mileage will vary)
- The least expensive product (per mg) that I have found so far.
- Shipping has been reliable from this vendor.
- Product is 100% guaifenesin (no decongestent, etc..)

Cons
- As previously posted by another reviewer, they can be difficult to swallow because of their size and the fact they are not coated. I have a large mouth :) so not so much a problem for me, but those with smaller mouths/throats (like my wife) might have more difficulty.

I have been taking Guaifenesin for the last 5+ years. My allergy doctor recommends taking it when I first notice allergy or cold symptoms as a means to help me combat the allergy/cold and recuperate faster.

I used to snore often and thought I had sleep apnea (I don't, according to an overnight sleep study). My wife and I were both sleeping poorly from my snoring and our quality of life was greatly impacted. She made this (life-saving!) observation that I did not snore when I was on the guaifenesin when I was taking it for cold/allergy symptoms.

Given how guaifenesin is rated as a relatively safe drug, my allergy doctor saw no harm in taking it regularly and told me that, although it is not advertised to help address snoring, he could see how thinning the mucus (that I often have) would make breathing through my air passage easier and reduce the snoring.

Guaifenesin might not help your snoring at all, but I would certainly recommend that you talk to your doctor if you have a snoring problem and ask if it makes sense to try it.

Dye free and well priced. Be sure to check the ingredient labels both active and inactive ingredients. This company also makes a time release version but it is not dye free.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great product, questionable company, November 22, 2009

I've been buying this product direct from ProHealth for quite a few years. It works exactly as advertised, and is well-priced compared to Mucinex. However, I see that I can now purchase 400 mg guaifenesin much more cheaply under the Kirkland & Maker's Mark brands, and will cease purchasing from ProHealth immediately. Why? First, they have yet to send a "your order has been shipped" message that includes the name of the product shipped. Since I receive several different products from them, I never can tell what they've shipped until it arrives. When I commented about this to them, they said they had been unable to figure out how to get their email to include the product name. Until a few months ago, their emails didn't even include a subject heading. It's unbelievable that they can't get their email system to work properly. It just isn't that hard. Second, as noted by another reviewer, their packaging leaves something to be desired. Everything is shipped in bubble-lined mailers. This is not a good way to protect a non-flat shipment. Third, while they sell a certain number of good and useful products, their primary sales pitch is woo. Homeopathy, idiocy about "natural" products, conflicting health recommendations (people with fibromyalgia should avoid aspirin because it contains salicylates, but should take willow bark extract, which is merely a salicyclate with an uncontrolled amount of active ingredient, but hey, it's natural), proprietary combinations of supplements pushed by the doctors who developed them (beware doctors who make money off of selling you proprietary supplements--they have every incentive not to be impartial when creating a treatment plan). Their website is a masterpiece of nonsense, lumping valid study results with conjectures from the journal Medical Hypotheses (as the name suggests, this is a journal in which people publish suggestions for possible future studies, not actual scientific findings) and anecdotal tales from consumers.

So, 5 stars for the product, 0 for the company, averaging out to 3. Buy guaifenesin 400 mg because it works, but not from ProHealth.

I used to take Pseudovent (which worked great), but they took it off the market. I was surfing the net & I spotted this & mentioned it to my doctor. He said that using this in conjunction with the Allegra-D he had prescribed would give me therapeutic value similar to Pseudovent. I got great service on purchasing it through Amazon & it really works.

I am not reviewing the product, but rather the shipping. Product came as ordered, but in a USPS Priority Mail shipping box with two

containers of tablets rolling around loose in the box. Although the

product was not damaged, it would seem a no-brainer that any parcel

should include packing material to secure the contents.
