Guanzi translation
Rickett's translation of the Guanzi in two volumes, of which the present is the first, has made a long underrated very important compilation of texts from early China available for the Western reader. Rickett has achieved an accurate and well annotated translation in a very readable, clear style.

an academic work
It's not a book for everybody. It's an academic translation. The editor doesn't make any effort to make the book interesting. It's a partial translation. The best parts of the work haven't been translated. I would have liked much more notes and explications. Chinese classics deserve a better handling and treatment.
