5.0 out of 5 stars Blurs the line between fiction and reality, September 30, 2002

An action packed novel that can be enjoyed as pure pleasure reading as well as a thought-provoking political commentary.

This book is not for those who wish to believe that politics is a clean game. But if you're looking for a sobering, behind the scenes look at the corruption, deceit, and power-brokering that takes place on Capitol Hill this story will keep you glued to your seat.

A well written fun read, with enough twists and turns to keep the pages flying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Guardian Angel, September 25, 2002
This review is from: Guardian Angel (Paperback)
"I would die for him, would I lie for him"...hmm...come on, tell me you haven't confronted this very issue before...well, luckily for us...Jim Chriss takes it on for us in his debut book
"Guardian Angel"...and no, it is not a Marin, CA. Zen thing...

This is a fast paced, good read. If you have read any of the Clive Cussler, Dirk Pitt series...who hasn't...Jim's "Guardian Angel" presents Mike K...the real guy...he's got heart, is attractive a bit goofy. He also has an interesting dilemma that as the story unfolds makes it hard to put the book down!

Not only can this author write a great story, he does it with a creative flair that leaves the reader hungry for more. The book is full of everything one could want in fiction. There is suspense, romance, murder and more. I love this author's style of writing. A real pleasure to read. I can hardly wait for his next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read!, October 29, 2002

Guardian Angel offers readers a timely fictional look inside an administration made vulnerable by its reliance on funding and illicit services provided by a big corporation. I found it especially relevant with all that's going on in the world today. It's easy to imagine that big corporations and big government are reliant on one another. In this case, the top guy is manipulated because of his weaknesses.

"I would die for him, should I lie for him?"

So starts this exciting novel about manipulation, corruption and the abuse of power. An honest, idealistic secret service agent, Mike Kostanski, is deceived into perjuring himself. When the man he was sworn to protect allows Mike to take the fall for him, his idealism begins to wane.

Mike finally realizes that the he has to look out for himself, and when he takes things into his own hands the action really starts and the corporate criminals have to protect their interests. And they do so with a vengeance.

By the time I was halfway through the book I couldn't put it down. With all the corporate scandals happening these days, I wouldn't be surprised to hear of something on the scale of the activities in Guardian Angel.

This one is going to be compulsory reading in business ethics classes in years to come.
Mike Kostanski is one of the heroes of everyday life - one who believes in America, in the law, and in basic justice. He could live next door-and I'd be happy to have him as a neighbor. I hope he surfaces again.

5.0 out of 5 stars A page turner you can't put down!!, September 20, 2002
By

This review is from: Guardian Angel (Paperback)
Guardian Angel takes the reader behind the scenes of the intricate relationship between politics and business. The plot line starts in familiar territory with a philandering President eager to retain his power, an ambitious First Lady and the Secret Service agent facing an ethical dilemma. Don't be fooled into thinking it is another fictionalized version of the Clinton administration. Guardian Angel surges into a murky world of crooked businessmen and ruthless politicians who cannot afford to be stopped.

The story portrays characters that find themselves caught between their loyalty to a cause and their own personal ethics. Difficult choices have to be made, and they are not always made well. Ordinary people are placed in extraordinary circumstances magnified by huge stakes for the politicians and the corporate criminals. Corruption, greed, cover-ups, kidnapping, murder, treason, money laundering are some of the results.

Its exciting storyline is made all the more believable by the corporate scandals currently dominating the front pages of our newspapers. I felt like I was getting a unique insight into the apparently sinister connections between business and politics.

I found myself walking as the characters and plot line was established, beginning to run as the protagonist went from one problem to another and then racing to find out what would happen next. And I wasn't disappointed. I hope this stuff can't really ever happen, but somehow I fear it could.
