5.0 out of 5 stars one of the greatest unknown pop albums of all time, August 10, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Guardian Angel Plus (Audio CD)
The Shadows invented rock and roll over in England in the late '50s really bringing home the goods by 1961. They were also Cliff Richards backing group and wrote most of his best stuff. This was all down to the Shads' great guitarists Hank Marvin and Bruce Welch as well as long time drummer Brian Bennett. Hank and Bruce stayed together through five decades disbanding the group in 1990 with the release of their '90s album Reflection. In 1985 The Shadows released what some call their greatest album of the '80s. A mix of stunning, melodic guitar instrumentals and well-crafted Beatle-style pop, Guardian Angel is a masterpiece and if there was any justice left in the world, it would've won the Grammy for pop album of 1985 or 86...Buy 4 now!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Album of All Time, April 12, 2009

I agree whole heartedly with the first reviewer. I have the vinyl album and am keen to get my hands on the cd. This was and still is the best album every made. In the year 2000 I heard that the British listening public voted on what they considered to be the best songs of all time. John Lennon's "Imagine" was second behind Sir Cliff Richard's "We Don't Talk Anymore" (written by virtuoso bass guitarist Alan Tarney : the bass track on that song is amazing). If they had included "tunes" then "Turning Point" off the "Guardian Angel" album should have assumed no.1 spot. My music tastes are extremely broad ranging from Tchaikovsky to Hendrix. This almbum by the Shadows is magic with three tracks: Turning Point, Guardian Angel, and Hammerhead as the standouts. Now where can I get a cd copy!!!!
