Book Description

Please be aware, this is not a YA/Fantasy novel - it contains notable adult-only elements.

Sex, lies and experiments - Sometimes blood is not enough.

After four years as an unwilling lab rat in a government medical facility, Vampire Anna is released back to society under the watch of a Guardian to try and coexist with humans.

Clinging on to the edge of sanity, Anna fears losing herself to the thirst and sexual lust of Vampirism, losing the last traces of her humanity and driving away the man she entrusted with love, the one she hoped to rebuild her life around.

Vampire life is a constant struggle for those trying to stay within the laws, but for Anna things become a lot more complicated when secrets about the origin of the virus are revealed by her former Guardian.

Editorial Reviews

Review

If you are a fan of Christopher Pike's "Thirst" or Scott Westfield's "Peeps," then I suggest you check this novel out. It is edgy, raw, and the characters deal with real life situations. - Bonnie E. Wheeler

What I loved the most was how Daniel's created characters that were both terrifying and fascinating. Her vampires aren't made of fluff - they have intense emotions, they have physical urges, and they are suffering. - Ricochet Reviews

From the Author

For "Guardian", I wanted to have a shade of the "Resident Evil" outbreak/infection/corporate-controlled type feel for my Vampires along with the attempts of controlling natural urges with drugs as with "Equilibrium", rather than the more paranormal approach of Vampirism.

The main character "Anna" isn't particularly special, she's not imbued with significant powers, rather the story is more about the pains of being a Vampire and trying to live in a normal human world without getting into too much trouble (Rather tricky  when you have a tremendous yearning for blood and an insatiable sexual lust), and of course forever looking to find that perfect person to love and be with.

There are notable adult-only elements in the writing, so this is certainly not a YA orientated piece of writing.  If you're comfortable with "TRUEBlood" then you'll be fine with "Guardian".

3.0 out of 5 stars Great concept, closer to three and a half stars July 21, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I liked this book, but didn't love it. I enjoyed the world the author created and the alternate concept she has conceived for her vampires. A virus that can mutate in a person to either infect them or leave them a carrier -- the latter which must be shunted away to contain the spread of the "disease".

While I have no complaints on the actual editing of the book - it was easy to read and free of errors, I didn't care for the way the story is told. A lot of writers mix narrative and showing to pull the reader in. Too often in this story we are simply told what is happening. But we don't feel it when our heroine is feeling it.

When she's involved with the doctor and we're told she loves him, I found it hard to believe. She seemed detached from him and every other partner she had throughout the book. While I found the story compelling and I read it in a few days, I kept wishing for more -- more depth from the characters, more feeling, more rich description bringing us in -- but over and over the author "tells" us what happens and it falls flat.

Also, the ending seemed rather abrupt. I won't spoil it, but there was no resolution with this book and it's almost like if you want to know how the story ends you MUST buy the next one. I would much rather have seen some wrap up with a lead in to the next story over being left hanging as this ending did.

Overall, I think this author has promise and I will check out her other work. I liked the concept and the characters, but I would have liked to get to know them better rather than left feeling like an outsider during the story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Human Protectors for Vampires - * Guardians * April 3, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Guardian is definably a unique story one of its kind, fast paced , new and refreshing and a different side to the Vampire saga we see every day. No turning pages back to see what you have missed or miss read full bore ahead till the end.
It's intriguing and uniquely captivating all in one. Elita has created a world entirely of her own - bringing in old Vampire traits and also creating her own. The story is filled with mystery, and suspense, bursts of passion, and characters that fluently ran with the storyline. Chapters all smoothly streaming from one to the next.
Secondary characters short and sweet, playing their rolls and well blended into the plot. Main characters contained that essence of passion and lust, sex scenes mild but tantalizing. Anna I found to be a damaged soul, being betrayed by someone she loved , we can all relate to that I am sure. She was kickarse when she needed to be and eventually love did find its way. Greg and Anna - seemed to oddly match - being both very different, Having their spurts of lusty but loving moments. A read that will keep you interested right till the end.
Overall an enjoyable short read, I look forward to the next installment.

4.0 out of 5 stars An awesome read! April 27, 2011
By Stacey
Format:Kindle Edition
I was so excited when i was asked to review this book, gotta love the book covers! *winks*

I must say i really enjoyed reading this book, with all the vampire books out these days this one adds a new refreshing twist to life as a vampire. It gives us a view into what life would be like if Humans controlled the vampires.

Human's discovered this infection and once it became public each vampire was assigned a Guardian to watch over them by law.

We have Anna she was 24yrs old when she was first infected. She's been infected for roughly 8 years and 2 of those years was in a testing clinic were they did horrible things to her. They are made to drink artificial blood and are tested often to check they stick to it. Anna's new Gaurdian Leon is a scientist he's interested in finding a cure to the infection.

Human's can be so cruel!! (but so can vampires!) lol

It's got me hanging for the next installment. It may be a short story to read but it's well written that it gives you so much more. I'd recommend this book to all the Paranormal readers, this gives you a nice taste of something different. *winks*

More About the Author

The idea of exploring fascinating characters and great stories has always captivated me. Working with a small team of people who get excited over the same project, the story, the cover design, the videos, and everything else that goes into bringing a book to life. It's been a pleasure to work with my friends and family, and all of you who have supported me along the way. We still have a long way to go, but I'm looking forward to it!

I had dabbled a bit with story writing for years, but it wasn't until I wrote a screenplay for a competition, from which I received some excellent encouragement that I decided to try my hand at a novel. But I had no story. I did, however, have a beautiful little scene in my mind of mother and son running from something or someone. As I began to get excited and ask myself more questions a story began to unfold. Then my beloved dog, whom I had loved and looked after for over thirteen years died in my hands, and my world went black. Not only for the loss of him, but the sudden revelation of mortality. I thought of all my loved ones, the fragility of life, and how I could not bare to lose any one of them. Here, a silhouette of a story was taking shape.

It wasn't until I came across a picture on the internet of a dark-haired young man, who was devastatingly beautiful, that my story rapidly came together. I did some research and discovered he was a character from Christopher Paolini's "Eragon", portrayed by Garrett Hedlund. It was decided instantly. I wanted more of him. All the feelings impressed on me when I look at him I put down on paper. And this fantastic story came alive, with characters so real I couldn't stop them from speaking in my mind, even at night when trying to sleep.

With the help of my husband (putting up with my virtual love affair with Garrett Hedlund), the help of my family and friends, and my beautiful dark-haired muse, an awesome story came into being. It was a wonderfully therapeutic, exciting experience and I look forward to many more great stories!

~Elita
