5.0 out of 5 stars a fun way to learn
My kids have enjoyed reading these books and have learned a great deal about owls and consequently about birds in general from them. The author seems to have done a great deal of research and works in much detail.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a Series for Everyone
I purchased this box set after finding out about the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series. I enjoy fantasy novels such as these, and I was very excited to get into a new series. I wanted to love these books, and I tried to get into the stories. Unfortunately, I was not entirely thrilled. The writing style and descriptions did not seem to be very captivating, and although there...

5.0 out of 5 stars Seriously Great Books - Definitely Buy the Boxed Set, March 2, 2010
By
This review is from: Guardians of Ga'hoole Boxed Set, Books 1-4 (Paperback)
My nine-year-old has been plowing through these books at an alarming rate. His third grade teacher gave him a copy of book one to read over the holiday break, and, today, just over two months later, I ordered book 12. I would be into getting them from the library, the way he's going through them, but he keeps going back to the ones he's already read.

I suspect young girls will like these books quite a bit. There are wonderfully strong female characters, both good and not-so-good. My son also like some of the grossness inherent in the lovely rich details of how owls go about their business, which is far less messy than how seagulls do their business.

Soren is a wonderful protagonist, truly good, but not dreary. Your child will love these books and want them all. So save some money where you can. Buy the boxed set.

5.0 out of 5 stars My son can't stop reading these!, January 6, 2008

I can't thank the author enough for writing these adventure books that appeal to boys. I was struggling to find books that my 4th grade son would enjoy. The reading selections he was offered at school took away his joy of reading. Thanks to this series, his joy has returned. He has learned many interesting facts about owls along the way. In fact, he's crazy about those birds now.

5.0 out of 5 stars A thoroughly delightful series of children's books!, February 16, 2008
This review is from: Guardians of Ga'hoole Boxed Set, Books 1-4 (Paperback)
My son has read and reread the books in this series, essentially absorbing a short course in natural history in the process. The author has a deft touch--she strikes a great balance between challenging a grade school reader (my son is in 4th grade), both in terms of concepts and vocabulary, while engaging the reader so thoroughly that the challenge is a joy. He's just as glued to the page now, on his third time through the series, as he was on his first. Enjoy this wonderful series!

4.0 out of 5 stars Young writing style, great for kids, can get dull for older readers., May 4, 2010

I thought I would finally sit down and read this series since the movie is coming out, and I hate to see a movie before I read the book. It is classified as a younger children series, but I did still enjoy the story. It does get a bit dull, but I am used to higher-level reading, and it would not really be fair to compare the separate categories. If you are a fan of stories like Lord of the Rings / Harry Potter / , then you should pick it up. You can finish a single one of these in a day easily, so if you're buying it for a trip, take a few.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put them down, March 24, 2010

These books rose to my favorites list immediately after I read the first page. Lasky makes a connection between you and the characters very quickly and it really adds to the story. Also, she used such a wide vocabulary, it was diverse enoughto make it very interesting but not so much that you couldn't understand the story if you didn't know the definitions. Buying them in a group of four worked well for me because after I finished the first, I was thrilled I didn't have to wait before reading the next. It had a good stopping point after the final book in the set too. If you enjoy these books, you may want to read "Wolves of the Beyond" by Kathryn Lasky.

5.0 out of 5 stars Caught up in the saga, February 16, 2010

My son requested these for Christmas. I had read a few pages of one of the series months before and couldn't get into it. I debated getting them for him but wanted to encourage his interest in reading. After reading the story from the beginning, I am now caught up in the saga. At bed time, I'm the one who insists on reading a new chapter! I was so impressed by the story line of the first 2 books that I've just ordered the rest of the series for him.

I am 56 years old! Hope that doesn't surprise anybody. I love reading these types of books. I'm also a Harry Potter and Rick Riordan fan. Guardians of Ga'hoole gives me a chance to go off into a different sort of world, a fantasy world in a way. Yet there is alot more than "fantasy" going on here. I'm sure children will read into it one way, and adults in another. After a long day of "reality" it's nice to break away into this "other" world. I have the first 6 books, have just started on book 2 and looking forward to all the rest in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gaurdians of Ga'hoole!, November 17, 2010
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Guardians of Ga'hoole Boxed Set, Books 1-4 (Paperback)
I found this book to be quite amazing. It has amazing, thrilling, suspencful, and funny story lines. Although i did find it to be slightly violent.I am 13 years old, the violence does not bother me. The violence however, ranges from canabilizm, to brain-washing. It is not full of gore or depression though. Sofar in the seris there has been no real gore or despcription, just the characters retelling their pasts. This book is not only fun but it is full of owl facts. I suggest this book for readers no younger then about 9. I am currently writting my own novel so i see how someone may find it to be over-the-top. But overall i would deffinatly suggest this to others!
