Book Description

In the tradition of Indiana Jones, a feisty heroine with a sixth sense, and two sexy heroes, a dark, reclusive billionaire and a mercenary bodyguard are on a hunt for four powerful relics that could change their lives…and the course of history. But relics aren’t Kendall’s only quest. Eventually, she’ll have to choose between her sexy boss and her badass bodyguard.

Kendall Morgan is a human bloodhound. Spending her childhood hunting relics with her ambitious archeologist father, she knew the two of them shared a sixth sense for the history and location of objects—sometimes even people. What she didn’t know was that their paranormal gift could ultimately be their undoing.

After the tragic plane crash that killed her father as well as her childhood best friend, Kendall dedicated her life to finding and protecting relics. When mysterious, sexy billionaire Nathan Larraby hires her for his latest expedition—the search for four powerful relics—she’s thrown into a world of high-octane danger. He sends brooding mercenary Jake Stone to watch Kendall’s back, but he may have created danger of a different kind.

As the team chases down clues, a man called the Reaper makes a play for the artifacts and will stop at nothing to put them to his own sinister use. What’s worse is that Nathan hasn’t told the whole story, and the dark secrets he’s keeping could cost them the mission…and their lives.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"A fast-paced and detailed suspense novel that is reminiscent of Dan Brown's books but with a pleasing sense of humor. The mythology that Clenney has devised is intricate and absorbing, spanning centuries. The way her characters interact--and sometimes react to each other--is at once amusing and believable. Its quick pace is well balanced by her light and witty touch." - RT Book Reviews

4.0 out of 5 stars Psychic Romantic Suspense December 5, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
This book starts a new series by Anita Clenney and, unlike most series starters, this one doesn't start with tons of story-building and characters introductions. We find ourselves with Kendall Morgan meeting with her mysterious new boss billionaire Nathan about finding a relic that he is searching for. Kendall has a psychic talent that lets her locate missing objects and also lets her learn about people when she touches them - which isn't very good for her love life. Nathan has also recruited a reluctant employee of his - Jake Stone - to go along. Nathan has some sort of hold over Jake.

Neither Jake nor Kendall are used to working with others and both resent the other's presence which doesn't stop them from being attracted to each other. I got a little tired of Jake's constant sexual innuendos though I liked Kendall's comebacks.

The story is filled with adventure as Jake and Kendall travel to Italy looking for a lost monastery which guards some mystical relics. The story is filled with twists and turns as a new villain seems to enter every couple of pages.

While the dialog was well-done and the repartee amusing, I missed character development. Each character had lots of secrets and back-story that we don't ever find out about. The tantalizing hints were very frustrating for me. I wanted to know how Jake became a mercenary soldier. I wanted to know more about the accident the killed Kendall's father and best friend Adam. And I definitely wanted to know what was happening with Nathan that gave him glowing eyes and super-human strength.

I will have to read the next books in the series to find out the answers to these questions and to find out if there is ever a romance between Jake and Kendall or Nathan and Kendall.

5.0 out of 5 stars "...it hooked me from the very first page..." December 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
In Guardians of Stone we meet Kendall Morgan a woman with a special talent at finding relics and sometimes even sensing there past.

A few months ago she was hired by sexy and mysterious billionaire Nathan Larra to help him track down relics. When he calls her in about a new hunt in Italy she is surprised to learn she will not being going alone but with Jake Stone, a sexy mercenary.

Nathan is sending them off in search of an ancient box one that could be very dangerous if it fell into the wrong hands. He does not give them much information to go on. Only that they are to find the ancient box, showing them a vague sketch of the box, meet a contact in Italy that may know more about a secret order that has supposedly protected the box.

It is with the order that Nathan believes they will find the box.

The order is not going to be that easy to find, even with a possible contact that may know more about it. It is shrouded in mystery and no one really seems to know much about it except for stories of a curse that has kept the people of the town away from the lands where the castle of the order lies.

To make matters worse the relic has also drawn the attention of the `Reaper' a
man who has been buying up all of the valuable relics he can find and Nathan believes they must find the box before the Reaper does. The box is much too important, powerful, for such a man to get his hands on it.

Thrown into a mystery and hunt for an elusive relic Kendall and Jake have to navigate through a minefield of danger and enemies--not to mention a few curses and ancient booby-traps.

I absolutely loved Guardians of Stone!!

3.0 out of 5 stars It's Okay November 3, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I didn't particularly care for it, like my star-rating says, it was okay. I liked the set up, a love triangle with a paranormal treasure hunter in the middle; mystery, adventure, etc. But the book itself didn't deliver what the blurb promised. All the elements were there but it just didn't really come together for me. The plot is fast-paced and I couldn't put the book down for wanting to know what would happen next but some things just fell short. I'm not sure how many times Jake accused Kendall of being a slut, a gold digger, or both, but it was several times and in a variety of ways. It got old really fast. He doesn't really come off as "brooding" but more of an arrogant masochistic jackass. I can understand that he didn't want her there and not many people trust those claiming to be psychics, but his reaction seemed over the top especially considering that Nathan can take care of himself. As for Nathan, it's made clear from the beginning that he likes Kendall but didn't really feel any connection between the two, and he himself, well I guess at the beginning they were trying to paint him as "mysterious" but he came off as annoyingly vague. A bit more information than just "a box" would've been awesome. Several harsh, abrupt transitions with little to no segue. Honestly, this almost got a much lower rating, but the overall plot makes for an interesting read and I thought it was well detailed, had some very interesting elements. So I guess I was disappointed with the romance aspect of this book but overall not a bad read so I give it an "Okay".
