5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product - Still After All of These Years
I am so glad to have found that this item is still for sale. I had been using it on my old "engraved" bedroom set for years and when we moved and bought "real" furniture, I needed it again for the bumps, etc. that occurred in the moving plus on the new houses cabinets. My old Guardsman set was dried out -- one of the pens still worked a little but the set is around 25...

1.0 out of 5 stars Did not work for me
These markers did not work for me. They look like I just drew on my table with magic markers. I thought perhaps I didn't wipe away the excess ink quickly enough the first time, but I tried again, immediately wiping off excess ink, and had the same problem. Had I used these on a more expensive table, I would have been very upset with with the outcome. Maybe I'm still...

I am so glad to have found that this item is still for sale. I had been using it on my old "engraved" bedroom set for years and when we moved and bought "real" furniture, I needed it again for the bumps, etc. that occurred in the moving plus on the new houses cabinets. My old Guardsman set was dried out -- one of the pens still worked a little but the set is around 25 to 30 years old now. It is amazing that I put in "Guardsman Furniture Touch-Ups" (oops) and furniture touch up yesterday on the website and NOTHING came up. I kept getting book titles, etc. All of a sudden today it comes up and other similar products, too where none existed before. WEIRD.

You start by marking with the lightest color pen (thank goodness they now use different color lids on each pen), and wipe the excess with a cloth, then try the next darker, etc. Works great and my old set always looked so much better after a treatment. You could never tell that I had touched it up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Touch up pens! Works Extremely well!, August 13, 2008
I've had the same pens for 3 years. I collect reproductions of vintage aviation/mission style furniture, and most of that comes in the form of "aged wood." That plus wear and tear creates little cosmetics blemishes in wood, especially if it's laminated wood (meaning it's made to look real, but underneath it's rubberwood or chipboard). Start with the lightest pen, and mark generously to fill in the light spots. THE KEY IS TO IMMEDIATELY RUB AWAY THE EXCESS marker, meaning anything that is outside of the blemish. If you don't, it may dry and leave an ink like blotch. If have used these on so many types of finishes, and if done correctly, you won't be able to tell where the blemish was.

I've even found that using the darkest pen adds a bit of a natural "pit" or "stripe" in a lighter wood when used correctly.

Practice on an unseen part first until you get used to it, but quickly you become amazed at its touch up abilities. Words also on wooden picture frames

4.0 out of 5 stars Refreshes furniture after kids, pets, bumps, nicks, scratches..., August 28, 2008
By
When I saw this inexpensive set of "markers", I was a bit skeptical about how well they could work. After all, furniture is a big investment. But between two dogs, two teenagers and interstate moves, our furniture has some bumps and bruises and was in need of touch up, so I purchased. At home, I was careful to follow the directions (testing in an inconspicuous place, start with lightest color pen...) Afterward, I was *VERY* pleased with the results. It was actually a bit fun! Almost like using a magic wand. I went all through the house and fixed every scratch, dent and nick I could find! I'm going to store away a second set of these just in case they are discontinued. As others mentioned, be sure to wipe away the excess marker "ink" right away. Follow directions and you won't be disappointed. Great little gadget!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great and very Helpful, January 25, 2010
This review is from: Guardsman Furniture Touch Up Kit (Kitchen)
I love these markers. I used these in a professional capacity in the rental business I worked at for a short while and have come to love the ease in scratch cover-up for my own personal furniture. Very easy to use!! On a side note, my 20-month old son found his way into my tools and ingested some while showing off his art for daddy. I was nervous about the toxicity of these markers, so I contacted Guardsman customer service for assistance. I was forwarded to a chemist in the company who said not to worry. This product is a combination of ethanol and several dyes, but in such minute amounts, the product is considered non-toxic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than you would think, September 5, 2009

I know this looks like someone trying to take three blackboard markers and use them to touch up furniture, but you know what? They work as well as anything I have even used to touch up nicks and scratches. Just start with the lightest color and see how it will reduce how much you notice the blemish by 80%+

I had heard of this product but had never used it. I recently moved and decided to purchase it and see for myself. Incredibly, it worked magic on all my 10-30 year old furniture. The results were awesome and my new home looks wonderful and all the furniture appears brand new.

Received this product promptly. I have already used it to cover up some scratches on my furniture. I like this because it has multiple shade in the package for all shades of stains. Covers well.

I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Removed intense water stain, July 20, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Guardsman Furniture Touch Up Kit (Kitchen)
After I put a scalding hot takeout container on my espresso brown coffee table, it left a ring. Not just any ring, mind you, but a pale, deep water stain the size of a CD. (Adulthood fail.)

I knew that furniture markers could cover up minor scratches and dents, but I was skeptical that anything would work on a blemish this intense. Much to my delight, this kit did the trick. The stain is still visible if you look for it, but you'd never guess that the wood underneath had been scalded white.

I followed the instructions (see below) and was surprised to find that I didn't even need the dark finish marker after a few applications of the light and medium. The markers smell like Sharpies when opened, but the dye is odorless and seamless with the original finish (i.e. not too shiny or opaque) when dry. For the price and results, I couldn't be more pleased.

Product instructions: Always start application with the LIGHT pen. Stroke felt tip lightly over scratch in the direction of the grain. Immediately rub briskly with soft cloth to remove excess dye. After two or three applications, scratch will darken. If color is not dark enough, repreat process with the MEDIUM pen and then the DARK pen. Replace cap tightly after use. Allow dye to set five minutes before polishing. Test on an inconspicuous area before use to ensure color and finish match.
