Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Coffee Bean Direct has been in business since 2004. The company does all of its in-house coffee roasting operations out of their facility in Frenchtown, NJ. The underlying philosophy the company has always operated under is to provide gourmet-caliber coffee beans at fair prices to businesses and individuals alike. Coffee Bean Direct offers an ever-increasing variety of single-origin beans, fair-trade & organic coffees, flavored coffees, and proprietary blends. In addition, they maintain an extensive selection of loose-leaf teas from around the world along with flavored teas, herbal teas, and unique tea blends. Coffee Bean Direct is also a leading supplier of unroasted green coffees intended for home coffee roasters and smaller boutique roasting businesses.

Product Description

This is a very popular coffee from Guatemala. The farms that grow the coffee must adhere to very strict organic growing conditions. It is shade grown at levels as high as 4000ft, and graded as "Hard Bean". The result is a cup with a rich body and a smooth and spicy chocolaty finish. This is our favorite Guatemalan around the CBD offices.

I usually buy directly from CoffeeBeanDirect in NJ and consider its coffee the best in quality, price and customer service. Lo and behold, when I saw the coffee offered with "free" shipping(the coffee price was the same as CBD), an order was made. My coffee was AWFUL!!!!!!!! It was old, stale and had no aroma. When it was ground, there was NO cleanup for my grinder: no coffee oils were present. I threw a $30+,5# bag of Organic/FairTrade in my compost and ordered from NJ.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great vendor, good coffee, February 24, 2011

Another Coffee Bean Direct product. As I said in other reviews the company itself is awesome. Great customer service and great products. This coffee is no exception, but it (if you'll pardon the pun) isn't my cup of tea. It has chocolate and caramel notes, a smooth finish and no unpleasant after taste. The issue is, it has no body either. I find myself using more than the normal amount just to try and get an extra 'kick' out of it. If you're a person who likes a lighter tasting cup of coffee then this is definitely your coffee. But if you like a more robust brew then give this one a pass (on the 5 pounds worth anyway!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent coffee!, May 19, 2010

This is the first time I've tried this particular variety of Guatemalan coffee but it won't be the last! The brew is very smooth and has low acidity. It is similar to Maragogype, which is increasingly hard to find.

The only downside to this purchase is that the bag is not resealable, so you must find a way to keep it fresh while storing it.
