  • Ali, the artist, stylistically burns the outside of the gourd to a rich, dark brown. Then, she carves beautiful geometric mandalas revealing the natural light brown color of the gourd. Her mandalas reflect flowers, mountains, spirals, and other natural elements.
  • Each Ali gourd comes with a 10-page booklet detailing its use in South American culture and instructions on how to cure, pack, and care for your gourd.
  • This bombilla (metal filter-straw) is hand-crafted from a benefical alloy of zinc, magnesium, and iron. It will not rust, flake, or peel. The bombilla filters yerba maté from the gourd for a direct herbal infusion.

I bought this when I started drinking mate about two years ago. Granted, I don't drink as much mate as a I used to, but when I do, I break out the old gourd. It's well made and the mate you get with it is good. The people at Guayaki (who you buy it from) have always gotten me my products and I've had no problems with customer-service from them.
