A MUST for Office Excel Users,
By A Customer
This review is from: Guerilla Data Analysis Using Microsoft Excel (Paperback)
I was worried that this book would either be (a) over my head or would (b) give me tips that I wouldn't use. What I found was a book with Excel tips that you don't learn in even advanced Excel training, but that are simple to use and can take A LOT of time off your day-to-day Excel tasks! The author gives simple, easy, relevant examples to how to use the tools and tells you the potential pitfalls of using each tool and how to get around them. He addresses such things as Consolidating and Subtotaling with ideas for making your reports more readable.Highly recommend for anyone using Excel in an office environment. There will be at LEAST 5 tips in this book that will make it well worth your $$.

This is a Marketing Manager's Bible,
By A Customer
This review is from: Guerilla Data Analysis Using Microsoft Excel (Paperback)
If you're a marketing manager -- or any kind of manager that has to look at whacked corporate data and within minutes turn it into something that people can understand -- THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU. Bill Jelen has been where you and I are today. He's taken years of real-world examples, questions, challenges and solutions and turned them into easy-to-understand "How-to's" that will slice HOURS of tedious trial-and-error off of your analysis project. Not only that, but the book has real-live support on the internet...! This means that if the project is too overhwhelming - you can just outsource it -- I mean delegate it! Thank You Mr Excel!

Not what I was looking for,
By Roger D. Dosbaugh (Boston, Massachusetts) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Guerilla Data Analysis Using Microsoft Excel (Paperback)
I read the reviews on this site, and went to buy this book. After bringing it home, I found that it was not what I expected at all. The contents were for much more specialized applications, and didn't appear to apply to the average Excel user. I've used Excel for several years, and haven't had much of a need for many of these specialized tips. I found a few things here and there that may have been helpful, but not enough to justify buying the book.(What really surprised me is that when I brought it back to the store, the fellow at the counter gave me a funny look, and asked why I was returning it. When I replied that it just wasn't what I expected, he said that I was the third person to return that same book in the last month!)

Finally, Excel's Power Tools Exposed, with Clarity,
By Henry M. Chapman (Natick, MA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Guerilla Data Analysis Using Microsoft Excel (Paperback)
After a decade-long search I have finally found it-a practical, understandable, superb, and stellar codex which denudes Excel's cryptic power tools. With screen shots and pellucid narrative, and couched in the context of the real world, Jelen deciphers and leads us through the labyrinth of Excel's convoluted power tools. Finally, I am the master of the data menu. I am using more functions than I had ever imagined I could use. With bodacious, blistering clarity, Jelen provides the grand-prix exposure of how to USE pivot tables, probably Excel's most potent device. This premier explanation of pivot tables is sine qua non reading for all Excel users. The chapter on pivot tables, if read by enough people, would skyrocket white-collar productivity and spike the government statistics. This book leaves the tomes in the dust. This is the one. Do not wait. Buy it.

Good book well worth its price,
This review is from: Guerilla Data Analysis Using Microsoft Excel (Paperback)
It's a great book that really teaches you what the title promises, in a very concise and easy to understand manner.
The author obviously has a lot of experience using the advanced tools of excel in data analysis. It's a good book for people who know the basic functions of excel inlcuing wiriting basic formula but haven't had the experience of using excel to process large amount of data. I found this book very useful and you can go through the book very quickly and really learn a lot.

This is basically a manual describing how to sort data etc...Data analysis in my mind is statistical analysis...I am very unhappy with this book...don't buy it unless you want to format tables etc...It says nothing about data analysis...

Great book. You are able to read Cover to Cover and pick up new skill sets whether a novice or more advanced. Only issue is there needs to be an updated version for 2007 excel.

I have been using Excel for years doing data analysis and charting. I found the short, easy to understand write up on Pivot tables worth the price of the book. Plus there are dozens of other tips that have already made me more productive.

Beware If You Are using Excel 2007,
By StellaR Baker (Castro Vally, CA USA) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Guerilla Data Analysis Using Microsoft Excel (Paperback)
The book has a copyright date of 2002 and refers to Excel 2000 and lower versions. If you were not exposed to some of these intermediate to advanced Excel topics before, it will be difficult to follow the book. The first time I tried looking up Pivot Table I was lost because the dialog boxes in the book didn't look like what I was seeing on my Excel. To be fair, Amazon does sell many other books by this author for Excel 2007.
