Total legitimate anger....,
By
This review is from: Guerillas in Tha Mist (Audio CD)
This is an angry CD. Almost all of the lyrics on this CD aredirected at someone. It was recorded in '92 ... There was a lot to be mad about-- and on this disc, it all comes out..... maybe to the point where it is almost.... almost... in self-parody.... But it's not. And the anger still resonates, and if this is not remembered as one of THE CDs of the whole 'gangsta' era, it pretty much shows how messed up the world is. I still carry this CD in my car. I still listen to this once a week. In so many ways, it's my favorite rap CD.... If you've not heard it, and want to remember/realize how messed up the world is, buy this disc. If you want to have a CD that is dark.... buy this CD.... another disc from the same year that is pretty tight is the 'Menace II Society' soundtrack-- I'd buy that too... and then watch the movie.... It's all pretty haunting...

A Must Have Classic!,
By
This review is from: Guerillas in Tha Mist (Audio CD)
I have both "Guerillas In Tha Mist" and "Planet Of Da Apes", and while both CD's are some of West Coast's at its finest, "Guerillas In Tha Mist" really stands the test of time. Both CD's are in my car changer at all times. This CD is real, and the issues rapped about were as legit in 1992 as they are today (unfortunately). Bangin' bass, kickin' drums, and three angry men plus Ice Cube equals one hard CD. I bang some songs off of this CD on the bar jukebox, and the younger crowd always ask me "who IS this?!" It would seem that the "old school" sound still has it. This CD is not for the meek. If you are white, and you can't laugh at yourself, then don't buy this CD. Racism abounds on this CD, and it's a little weird being on the receiving end of it, being a poor preppy white boy in living in small-town, USA. All in all, this CD is must have for any West Coast fan. Trust me, as I have had to replace stolen copies three times now! ;) Buy "Planet Of Da Apes" too! "Menace II Society" is also a good purchase as "Guerillas Ain't Gangstas" is one of my favorite Lench Mob tracks.

Dope album,

This review is from: Guerillas in Tha Mist (Audio CD)
This is a very good album from the era that it is from. If this album is offensive to your ears then don't listen to it. Racism is very alive then and is very alive now. The previous reviewer is upset over the lyrics against white people, but what about the REAL violence that has been committed against Africans for hundreds of years? If Amazon needs to stop selling the album then you need to leave the planet.

Ice Cube's Excellent and "Unknown" Side project,
By
This review is from: Guerillas in Tha Mist (Audio CD)
I decided to purchase Da lench Mob's "Planet of the Apes" back in 1992, not because I knew who they were, but when I browsing through the Hip-Hop section, I saw that Ice Cube had produced this CD, and I thought I give it a shot. Not only was that appealing, there were 3 guys on the back of the album cover with full fledge ski mask's on, I and thought, man this album is going to be hard as hell. The album didn't dissapoint. Not only was the album hard as hell (the opening track starts off with a hard beat and some guy talking about execution styles used) but the group showed some real talent on the mic. This would be a short lived project, as Da Lench Mob only stuck around for another album, yet this is one that Hip-Hop fans shouldnt let pass by. Even though its been 14yrs since its release, its still classic "Hardcore" Hip-Hop, and I cant reccomend it enough to people that are fans of the genre. ENJOY

this cd reminds me of my childhood back in the 70's, then when i hear it now it still sounds like some old blaxploitation soundtrack.starts off saying about the system of how criminals, and slaves have been killed yes i mean black people and don't think racism is dead cause rappers have crossedover, yes people have been axed, burned alive, buried alive, mutilated, dragged, hung, shot, crucified, raped, drowned, left out in a abandoned area to rot, talks about the last black man who was executed and th e white folks love this, i miss music like this cube need to refocus his views back on these issues. even though jd, t bone, and shorty shines mostly on this cd. lench mob was ahead of their time predicting the rise of the slim shady syndrome.

Selective Censoring Mars CD Version of a Nearly Perfect Album,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Guerillas in Tha Mist (Audio CD)
Da Lench Mob's "Guerilla's in tha Mist" was an instant classic when it debuted back in '92, and has definitely borne up well over the years, still sounding fresh, controversial, and relevant more than a decade later.
The production is reminiscent of early 90s East Coast hip hop, particularly the Bomb Squad's work with Public Enemy (It's no secret that Ice Cube, the Godfather of DLM, was a hardcore admirerer of PE), and that makes for an interesting blend with the definitively West Coast flows of DLM members J-Dee, Shorty, and T-Bone. That said, this is NOT "gangsta rap", as some reviewers here have described it. No, this is definitely militant, early 90s, political/Afrocentric rap, having more in common content wise with X Clan, PRT, Professor Griff, and Paris than with NWA, Snoop, or the DOC (although it might be fair to say that the flows and slang employeed by DLM have more in common with the latter grouping. Standout tracks include the brilliant title track (featuring group mentor Ice Cube, "You and Your Heroes" in which Da Mob takes PE's middle finger to Elvis and John Wayne one step further, calling out every white pop hero from Madonna to John Lennon, "Ain't Got No Class" (featuring B-Real of Cypress Hill which calls out various trifling ghetto sterotypes, "All on My Nut Sac" in which Cube plays the devil's advocate role of a drug dealer hustling on DLM's turf, and the instrumentals "Lenchmob Also in the Group" and "Inside tha Head of a Blackman" which both sound as if they might've been crafted by Terminator X. Yet and still, I have to give the cd release a 4 instead of a 5 because of selective editing. When I bought this back in high school, that parental advisory sticker stood for absolute freedom of artistic expression. The tape was raw and uncut. Nothing was censored. On this cd release, DLM is apparently free to call Black folks jigab**s, ni**ers, and whatever else, call White folks cavemen, devils, crackers, and what have you, talk about f**king Elvis with a shotgun, and even diss Godzilla, all without a bleep or backmastered slur, but whenever J-Dee or another member of the group says fa**ot, its censored, as if no one is permitted to offend the great gay sacred cow (now there's an image for you!). And no, I'm not a homophobe, but I don't believe in selective censoring either. Either bleep out ALL of the above-mentioned slurs (on a "clean" release) or bleep out NONE of them (on the uncensored version). If White people, Black people, police officers, Japanese dinosaurs, and everyone else are not shielded from DLM's wrath, why should homosexuals be? Nevertheless, this album is definitely worth the purchase price. Give it a shot, you won't regret it. Peace

This is one of those albums you never get tired of. Guerrillas and Freedom's Got an AK absolutely shine. This makes you want to go out, shoot it up, and burn it down.

Feeding off of that Ice Cube energy Da Lench Mob came with a great flurry. None are quite to the level of Cube but all together very good.

When I first purchased this album I fell in love with it at first listen. It has all the ingredients of a classic: social and political commentary, crazy beats and a thought provoking intro. Standout tracks: BUCK THA DEVIL, FREEDOM GOT AN AK, LORD HAVE MERCY, ANKLE BLUES, WHO YOU GONNA SHOT WITH THAT, GUERRILAS IN THE MIST, LOST IN THE SYSTEM etc. Filler: Aint got no class is destroy by B Real's annoying nasal sounding voice. Minus this one track this album is better than any of these trashy hip pop bands that we have to suffer through today(black eyed piss, dookie4life dem franchise fags etc. Ice Cube's protege's didnt disappoint on this one.
