5.0 out of 5 stars THIS BOOK ROCKS!!
if you're looking for a nice little formula for getting laid, you won't find it. if you're looking for a magic potion that will make your favorite person fall in love with you, you'll be severely disappointed. if you're looking for a new YOU that people will like... well, if you need that, NO book is going to help you.

Although it always helps to read new ideas, or even old ones you haven't considered for a while, this book hardly lives up to its title or its promise. The so-called 'tactics' are nothing more than the common-sensical approaches that everyone ought to take in the dating game, and they don't so much give an upper hand to the reader, as render a level playing field to all involved. The self-help content of this book, therefore, is limited at best, but if you're a really socially uneducated or underdeveloped person, this book is as good a place as any to start. What's missing, is a more clear outline of HOW to bring the strategies in this book into practice. Bland advice like "be confident" is about as useful to the lonely and insecure partner-seeker, as would be, for example, "grow wings" or "double your income."

what it WILL give you is a whole new outlook on approaching interesting and attractive people; hard-headed good advice, and useful strategies for overcomming your shyness. information on how to flirt, proper use of body language, how to recognize signs of incompatibility, and so on. dating is a language, and not everyone is born speaking it. this book is a dictionary. it will teach you how to convey your intent without overstepping bounds, and possibly give you a whole new confidence that can come only with understanding.

1.0 out of 5 stars Might be good for women...., November 17, 1999
By A Customer
This book is pretty much worthless for the average male looking to find a date. Most of the techniques would only work if the other person starts out receptive. Obviously, Sharyn has never seen the reaction most of us guys get when trying to meet women. They're usually downright rude. It's not as if one silly not-so clever line is going to make her interested. This book is up there with some other useless advice, such as "just be yourself." I wouldn't be surprised if Ms. Wolf thinks that women just want to find a "nice guy!" That's a laugh.

2.0 out of 5 stars Stick with Naomi Wolf, December 2, 1998
By A Customer
A feel-good book for women. Not as vague as some but the male input must have been gathered at one of those flirting seminars. Its very positive and well intentioned but this really is for women only. "Think of yourself as a ray of sunshine melting ice" "Wear sultry hats". Please.

1.0 out of 5 stars Useless non-sense, November 24, 1998

This book is full of useless stories. Don't waste your time and money on this book. If I could I would give it zero stars.

1.0 out of 5 stars This book is useless, June 12, 1998
By A Customer
The suggestions this book gives are so obvious that they are practically useless. If you are still not sure because others here have given it good reviews, just go to a bookstore and browse through it. This book is so devoid of useless information that half an hour is probably all it'd takes, and you'll know what I mean.

2.0 out of 5 stars Shallow as a puddle, January 12, 2010
As many reviewers have pointed out, this book only cover the very basics. And even these in a highly debatable fashion, efficiency-wise. If you're a man and want something beyond the basics, I recommend Undercover Sex Signals, by Leil Lowndes. Despite the title, it's simply a book about nonverbal body language, that will be hundreds of times more useful, for practical purposes.
On the other hand, I suggest you invest more in your own persona, and for that matter I recommend Robert Greene's books (48 laws, 33 strategies, art of seduction and the 50th law).

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST read for those looking for dating advice...., April 23, 1999
By A Customer
I was a bit sceptical at first, how can you learn social skills through a book ? right ?! Even if you don't want to try the techniques discussed in the book, Wolf will raise your awareness of when someone is interested in you. If you find her techniques foriegn to your personality, start small. Pick an item to try each week. You will be surprised by the responses !!! Good Luck !

5.0 out of 5 stars What a breath of fresh air, March 19, 2004
By A Customer
Coming out of a long relationship freaked me out. I didn't know what to do first. I'm a good guy, but a clueless guy. This book gave me so many ideas--but, more than that, it made me laugh out loud. I felt educated and relaxed and no longer as anxious about getting out there. I won't say that everything has been a breeze, but I will say that I am much more comfortable with dating and, most importantly, with myself.

5.0 out of 5 stars This stuff works, really!!, July 24, 2001
I purchased this book several years ago, after seeing Sharyn Wolff on "Oprah." I was impressed by her straightforward, common sense ideas concerning male/female interaction. The book is written in the same forthright manner. I only disagreed with one idea (be prepared to meet people anywhere, including the laundromat -- my neighborhood laundromat was so scuzzy that I paid extra to use a wash-and-fold service near my office). All the rest of the ideas were outstanding. Wolff's basic premise is to work on being the kind of person in whom your ideal partner would be interested -- have a life, and enjoy it!! I have loaned this book out repeatedly, and recommended it to all of my single friends.
