Take a chance, otherwise you will never have a chance.,
This review is from: Guerrilla Marketing for Job Hunters: 400 Unconventional Tips, Tricks, and Tactics for Landing Your Dream Job (Paperback)
This has to be the ultimate job search reference book available on the market today. I have purchased several books with similar claims in the past; however they never lived up to my expectations. What sold me to write this review is the fact that the book acts like a personal mentor to you during the whole job hunt process. It gives you a tremendous confidence booster and opens up doors of opportunities for you to really get creative and result driven. Don't fool yourself by thinking that activity and accomplishment is the same thing. This book is all about accomplishments and results. I would highly recommend this book to anyone, whether you are a new grad or a veteran, this book will show you how to maximize your worth in the market today. Believe me when I say this, a wrong job hunt approach can really be discouraging to your self image (been there done that), so do it right the first time. Buy this book, you can't go wrong.

Invaluable resource for job-seekers and those wanting to be better-known,
This review is from: Guerrilla Marketing for Job Hunters: 400 Unconventional Tips, Tricks, and Tactics for Landing Your Dream Job (Paperback)
Mr. Perry's book serves as a reminder and an excellent guide to getting yourself noticed. It amounts to nothing less than a personal marketing and PR campaign. Not everything in this book will be appropriate for evveryone (my opinion), but I can't imagine that anyone would not find a significant number of useful strategies, tactics and tips.
Mr. Perry's approach is becoming even more applicable and valuable in the age of personal media publishing, where everyone, it seems, has a public presence and persona. Finding those ways to differentiate yourself and get noticed (and yes, I think this applies to careers as well as other personal and professional endeavors) is all-important. My only reservation is that the book doesn't really handle the impact of information overload, and what happens when all of your competition is also aggressively marketing themselves (though I will tell you that Mr. Perry has some ideas on this...that I hope he'll include in his next publishing effort!). A must-read for job-seekers and anyone looking to become more visible.

Yes, It should be a textbook for a class in Communication and how you are going to build your network from the time you are born. What if you had been forced to read and do everything in this book when you were 12? (They already have the computer skills). By the time you were 21 you would know and be connected to a minimum of 500,000 people. You could cherry pick which University to go to and attend for free. You would have no BOUNDARIES. That means that you could follow your passion. Hum, a book with the potential to create a GENERATION that does what they are passionate about. You find that if you play all day. That is a gift not a book.
Now a execs dont do networks, we do "See ya, we are done" and never again recreate the relationship. The book shows how to get them back, make 100's of thousands of new ones, know exactly where people are and what they do and teach you how to meet them. THE COLD CALL IS DEAD. WHY DO IT? YOU CAN, BUT WHAT FOR? YOU DONT HAVE TO AND YOU CAN TALK TO 80 PERCENT OF THE CEO'S IN THE US. What is that worth to you? Sorry, no number for that. DONT READ this BOOK - Do it. Using part of this book I have an ability to reach over 300,000 people. It took a week to do that one part of the book. If you are a 20 plus year veteran of Corporate warfare, it will help you find out what to do with the rest of your life. If you are 16, it will help you leverage your passion into fun. SO, if you tell your kids to follow their passions, buy them the book first. No, this is not a marketing message. It's simple fact --- I dare you to challenge yourself to think way outside the box, bottle your fears and go do this. As I said, this is a book about life, buy 10, you will wear out 9 of them, Who was I? Burned out veteran of corporate mergers. Who will I be? Human with a fresh spirit and direction after reading this, taking six months off and reading a bunch of books that did not communicate the fundamental message. Find what you love, use the book to get it.

Guerrilla Marketing: A Creative Way for Finding a Job,
This review is from: Guerrilla Marketing for Job Hunters: 400 Unconventional Tips, Tricks, and Tactics for Landing Your Dream Job (Paperback)
It is an understatement to say that the number of books on job hunting is overwhelming. In addition, there is plenty of free information on the Web for job hunters including sample resumes and cover letters. On the surface, this wealth of information seems to be a good thing. However, ask yourself, "How much of this information is a variation of standard approaches to job hunting". You know - write a chronological resume, a bland cover letter, and send both to an unknown hiring manager or HR person. More often than not, you are lucky to receive an automated e-mail acknowledging the receipt of your resume and cover letter. If you find all this fruitless and tiresome, then Guerrilla Marketing for Job Hunters is the book for you.
This book looks at job hunting in an radically new way - the guerilla way. Its subtitle "400 Unconventional Tips, Tricks, and Tactics for Landing Your Dream Job" sums up the book nicely. The book is divided into four parts: A discussion of the guerrilla frame of mind; An inventory of weapons such as resume makeovers, ideas for cover letters, and PR strategies for your guerrilla campaign; A description of tactics for landing a job including networking and cold calling; and, A discussion of guerrilla campaigning with examples and techniques for effective interviewing and navigating the final offer. The appendices contain several examples of resumes including eXtreme(tm) makeovers and a Value-Based(tm) one as well as an example of a cover letter - "the only cover letter you will ever need." These are key ingredients for your guerrilla arsenal. This book is informative, easy to read, and has numerous examples to illustrate the tactics of a guerrilla approach to job hunting. Beyond the tips, tricks, and tactics for getting a job, the book is a launching pad for the reader to innovate ways of finding that coveted job. So, if you want a creative approach to finding a job and have fun at the same time, this book is for you.

Although this book offers a lot of good information about non-traditional job hunting, even for traditional job hunters, it contains a lot of valuable information. Two chapters, 'hand-to-hand combat' (face-to-face interviews) and 'negotiating the deal' are in themselves worth all the money. Good advice on networking, effective googling etc. are many other plus points. A lot of insight from personal experiences.
A must have for today's job hunters. If you liked 'what color is your parachute' book, you are going to like this too.

I saw that somebody was reading this on one of my LinkedIn groups so I thought I'd give it a shot. I have read lots of books on this subject but this one by far covers the most ground. It's a quick read for a book its size and after I finished, it was almost like I had just done a 10 mile run. I was out of breath but I felt good, the endorphins were pumping. The biggest thing I picked up was making yourself seen on the Internet and how much recruiters use it now. It was also interesting to see how things too have progressed in the short time the book was published. Can you do all the things in the book, maybe not but it still is worth the investment, an investment in you.

Last year I relocated from one state to another. I tried to line up a job before the move, but no one wanted to take a chance on someone out of the area. The economy was tough and few were hiring. I applied for several positions once I made the move. I had a few interviews, but hadn't had any offers. I read the book and followed some of the suggestions. I found a job that I knew I was qualified for, but also knew that there would be a lot of competition. I applied anyway. I followed up by going down to the office and introducing myself to one of the managers. I told her that I had applied for the job and had the experience they were looking for. She brushed me off, but now she had a face to go with a name. A few weeks later she called for an interview. I brought a list of comments from previous employers and other people who I had interacted with on a daily basis. I also brought a letter of recommendation. I was hired on the spot. I found out from my employer at a later date that the list of comments that I brought to the interview sealed the deal. She was impressed. You must do the work, but this book can show you how. I can't wait for the next release.
