Very sweet book about love,
By M Diaz "MomofSon" (Miami, FL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Guess How Much I Love You (Hardcover)
I think this book is so sweet about how much a father loves his son. I am amazed at the two one-star reviews, I mean, how cynical can you get? So what if the father declares a greater love for his son (the bunny is sleeping at the time, if that makes you feel better)? It is actual very natural. As for the author's use of "sophisticated words", what word gave you trouble, thornbush or nutbrown?

I absolutely love this book! I received it as a gift five years ago when my son was born. I cried the first time I read it and five years later I still get emotional about it. My son loves it as well and will randomly come up to me and tell me that he loves me all the way to the moon. Then we follow the book's storyline and usually end with loving each other all the way to Pluto and back.
This purchase was a gift for a friend and I'm sure she'll love it too!

I can barely get through the whole book without getting choked up. AND, when I read the book to my kids at bedtime, it never fails to lull them to sleep.
Every parent should own this book!

one of the best childrens' books ever written...,

little nutbrown hare, enjoying a ride on his papa's back, wants to be sure that his father is listening - so he says, "guess how much i love you!" the result is a sweet, lighthearted, loving banter as father and son strive to describe the size of their love for each other - thinking bigger and bigger as the book goes on!
i LOVE this book. my 3 year old requests it before each nap and before bedtime - he loves reading about big & little's adventures in describing their love the rhythm of the book is beautiful and charming, and the illustrations perfectly match the sweet disposition of the book. the person who gave this book one star completely missed the point of the book. it's not about "competition" - the father and son bounce off of each other and encourage each other to be increasingly imaginative. big nutbrown hare is quietly amazed by his son's big thinking and his counter is very very sweet. wow. don't base your purchase off of that crappy review.

There's a reason this book is marked as being appropriate for age 4 and up. The fact is, this book is a bit long for many toddlers. They don't have the attention span for this sort of thing, especially one without a rhyming or more predictable plot.
My niece turned two before she was really interested in this book. The only way I could read it to her was right before she fell asleep. Now, though (at age 5 or 6 when I first wrote this review), she will even request it. I can understand why people think this book is too competitive. However, it always appears to me like it's a sort of a game - who can come up with the most elaborate description? instead of an actual competition. Certainly the little nutbrown hare doesn't get upset during the book (and one day he'll be taller than his father, jump higher, etc.) However, if you're concerned about that, I would strongly suggest you read the book first, before you buy it.

This is truly the greatest love story ever. The first time I read this, I cried. I have not found another children's book that has moved me so. It expresses exactly how I feel about my daughters. I recommend this book, even as a gift, for all new and loving mothers. Read it to your babies in and out of the womb.

With wonderful illustrations by Anita Jeram, this little gem reassures a small rabbit that his parent loves him greatly. This book is a good choice for parents of toddlers and preschoolers.

The one star review for this book struck me as really silly. I think this book is very sweet and don't understand the reviewer who saw it as negative competition and the father not accepting that his child loves him. To me, this "guess how much I love you" conversation seems like a natural, cute game that most children would enjoy if presented in a spirit of fun, not "I'm better than you". I want to teach my daughter spanish and I have bought this book in both english and spanish.
I've loved this book since I first saw it 10 years ago and now that I'm pregnant I bought it for my daughter. Other reviewers have also criticized the illustrations as being boring, but I like the illustrations, myself. Maybe my child won't like this book as much as I do? Well, I'm going to at least give her the opportunity to find out.

Best little book ever,

My husband and I love this little book. It is a very touching story that is especially great for a father to read to his baby (especially a son). The illustrations are beautiful. The reason why I gave it only 4 stars is because, although we LOVE the illustrations, they are pretty small. I think larger drawings would be better and more interesting for babies and very small children. Otherwise, the story is interesting and heartwarming, and not at all a chore to read over and over and over again.
