Editorial Reviews

Nancy puts so much emotion, so much pain, so much sadness into these, it's like she's cryin' on your shoulder. These 14 lovelorn classics come from 13 of her '50s and '60s LPs: the title track; When Sunny Gets Blue; Who Can I Turn To; You Can Have Him; You've Changed; Too Late Now; The Good Life , and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Beautiful December 20, 2006
By nodice
Format:Audio CD
I heard the title song 'Guess Who I Saw Today'like fifteen years ago and remembered being totally blown away by the song-but then being a young twenty year old couldn't get myself to actually go and purchase a Nancy Wilson CD. How un-cool. But the song haunted me and recently I decided to give this CD a try...I'm SO glad I did. Nancy Wilson is a class act who has produced wonderful music. This is the CD to settle back with a nice glass of wine and let you mind flow with the music. This may have been my first Nancy Wilson CD but it certainly will not be my last.

Any release from legendary Nancy Wilson is a five-star affair but do we really need more duplication of her early sixties output? Contrary to what Capitol Records thinks, Nancy Wilson grew up and recorded her greatest classic works for their label after 1967, this is when her most imaginative and inspired recordings were recorded by the legendary iconic singer for Capitol Records through to the late seventies. For starters still unreleased to Compact Disc is engrossing "Now I'm A Woman" masterpiece, brilliantly produced by legendary production team Gamble/Huff, many have wore out old vinyl copies of this classic years ago, incredible most Nancy Wilson classic Lp's from 1967 on still remain unreleased wasting away in the Capitol vaults, truly making one wonder what are they waiting for and why? Luckily have Import issue of 1974 "Come Get To This" masterpiece, playing this classic now for months never leaving car changer. Thinking about all the other unreleased to Compact Disc great 60's-70's Lp's such as "Kaleidoscope" featuring a riveting "The Greatest Performance Of My Life", "I Know I Love Him" is another classic backed by none less than "The Jazz Crusaders" featuring keyboard legend Joe Sample on keyboards with Nancy at her peak in sublime form, "All Is Fair In Love" Lp another winner filled with amazing Nancy performances, trailblazing "This Mother's Daughter" is a "Quiet Storm" classic filled with deeply soulful & completely riveting performances, "I've Never Been To Me" another lost classic filled with mesmerizing performances then funky "Music On My Mind" is a soulful classic finding the adventuresome singer breaking from rigid confines of only doing old standards... 5.0 out of 5 stars A bit sad, but absolutely beautiful June 8, 2007
Format:Audio CD
Nancy Wilson puts such emotion into this music it's almost as if she's been there, done that. She has other recordings of the title song, "Guess Who I Saw Today" but this is the one that pulls on your heart and makes you dread hearing the sadness of that last line. Nancy Wilson is a gem and you can feel her brilliance in this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incomparable October 27, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
She's classy, smooth, beautiful and humble. What a package and her music is timeless. The fact that the title of the album is my favorite Nancy Wilson song makes it all the more special to me. I was introduced to Ms. Wilson's music at 17 and fell in love with her; I love her just as much 45 years later, if not more.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Real Nancy Wilson is as great as ever! April 4, 2014
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
First of all, don't confuse this Nancy Wilson with the female singer who also sings under that name. This is the real deal! If you have ever loved and lost (and who hasn't?) then Guess Who I Saw Today is your song. The song itself is essentially perfectly written. It tells a complete story in just a few lines. Nothing essential is left out. Nothing unnecessary is added. If you love silky voiced female jazz singers, buy this album. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mesmerizing Music December 9, 2013

Nancy Wilson epitomizes quiet Jazz vocals in the 60's. Her charm mesmerizes. Her song selection and backup bands are always stellar.
