Editorial Reviews

Review

... Once Again is the fourth of six songs on this album, and I think it comes at a perfect time. The song features Krauss' vocals at their best and most ambitious, and has some of the best jazzed up, organ-centric keys on the album. Help from friend Ashley on the violin helps stamp Once Again as the most uniquely enjoyable song on the album. There's a subtle hint of good, free-flow jam band littered among the song's four minutes, only helping cement its place as the album's best... - Michael Lopez, --Phoenix New Times

Product Description

Piano/Rhodes driven indie pop; with guitars, violins, and driving percussion. PAWL would describe it as cinematic pop -- songs that tell stories and are, at once, catchy, fun, and at times, serious- but never whiny. Arrangement inspired as much by indie pop/rock as Burt Bacharach, Guest House doesn't try to copy the newest trends in independent or popular music; it delivers its own unique combination of classic and modern sounds. PAWL's songwriting draws inspiration from all over the map: from the late Johnny Cash, Elliott Smith, and Nick Drake -- to modern artists such as the Sea and Cake, Beck, Spoon, and Broken Social Scene. For the price of an extra fancy coffee, buy this album- you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album! February 16, 2011
Format:Audio CD
Love the album! It is really well done, especially considering was produced independently. The music material has soul, and the melodies are complicated, catchy, and Pawl has a style that is totally unique. I love the graphic art, too! I highly recommend this buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Indie fans, looking for something unique? February 19, 2011
Format:Audio CD
PAWL's lyrics are a big reason that I love this disc. The lyrics are descriptive and take you to another place; they aren't typical and that's a good thing.
The best part about this EP is that, musically, each song as it's own unique timbre and arrangement with different keyboard sounds and sonic textures. NOTE: It does sound like the same song done different ways. Each song is it's own statement. Impossible to get bored. Only six tracks but high relisten value.
