What are you going to do?,
By Hombre "Hombre" (Indiana USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Guia Roji Mexico Tourist Road Atlas (Paperback)
I have looked at a lot of maps of mexico. None of them are great. Like the authors above state, there are gross inaccuracies, such as missing towns, towns not where they say they are, higways that don't look at all like what the map says, confusing junctions that aren't on the map, and aren't marked on the road with signage. One can't really trust 100% what one is looking at. I have seen this guide and declined buying it, because the included city maps are worthless generalities, and the state maps aren't much better. I purchased the Quimera guide which is a collection of generalities, that is a better graphic presentation, but in all, not a lot better. The best bet, IMO, is to buy the individual state maps by Guia Roji, and supplement them with the individual city maps that you need.
Then begin to pray.

Very Disappointing,

Twelve years ago I had this wonderful Mexico road atlas with primary, secondary, and trails marked out in great scale and easy to read! Loaned it to a co-worker and it was lost. Been elsewhere since. I thought this would be the replacement for an upcoming trip to Oaxaca but it's not for several reasons and I'll use examples. First, You wouldn't know from this product that it's Highway 15 intersecting with Highway 125 south of Juxtlahuaca. Second, you wouldn't know that there is a direct route from Santa Maria Huatulco to Pluma Hidalgo (Highway 178). Third, with its scale you better have the vision of a mole and someone else driving. Scan and expand the pages you need as general reference in your takealong folder and leave this Atlas behind.

Expensive, but priceless,

Guia Roji's Mexico Tourist Road Atlas is a bit hard to come by. I gather it is out of print. However, it seems to be recognized as the authoritative guide for US/Canadians driving in or through Mexico. There are a total of 38 maps. The balance of the book is an explanation of road signs in Mexico and tourist information (explanation of nature of hundreds of towns and cities - ~60 pages worth). While the purchase price seems high - I guess it is a bargain as it may save your life. Have a great trip!

Mexico Road Atlas,

We went from Mexico City's Airport to Taxco to Acapulco and back using this Atlas and a couple of other maps as our sole means in a rental car. The maps were useful, especially the trip tickets in the back and the localized maps. However what the maps don't show you, and what I never did figure out with any of the other maps that I found was a good way out of the airport to the Highway that lead out of the city and the same would be true getting out of Acapulco. Signs in Mexico are not very well done. Once you get on the highway, or tollway you want to get on you are fine. Once you in get in the city of Mexico, or Taxco or Acapulco, you are are in danger of getting lost very quickly and it is not easy once lost (as we did twice) of getting back in the other direction because of traffic volume and because of the lack of ease of getting back going in the other direction. So this book is very useful to give you a sense of getting from point A to point B...but once in Point A or Point B be careful. Also for the tourist...we spent a week in Taxco with a family of ten (eight children we have) and absolutely loved it. It was inexpensive and wonderful. We took a day trip to Acapulco, we went to caves nearby, a waterfall and Xochocalico Mayan ruin site and it was a fabulous place. The Catholic Churches were magnificent...Santa Prisca is probably one of the most beautiful churches in the world. During the eucharist they light off explosions each time, that are heard all over Taxco, at each Mass, daily or on Sunday at each of the 7 churches throughout the city. The people are wonderful, the cobblestone streets are quaint and I would highly recommend seeing and staying in Taxco.
