Sooooooo Naughty, and Just The Right Amount of Nasty!,
By Fancy Pants (Camden, NJ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Guide to Becoming the Sensuous Black Woman (And Drive Your Man Wild In and Out of Bed!) (Paperback)
Umph, umph, umph. I picked up this book at the mall because I read the "tips" on the back and thought, 'Okay, this book might come in handy.' Despite the title, I wasn't thinking about sensuality, I was thinking about how to turn a man out. And this book will show you how to do just that. It gives you a blow-by-blow (pun intended!) description on how to give good oral sex, how to give him a hand job, different sexual positions, and how to make sure you're tight down there so both you and your partner can have more enjoyment. But it also teaches you some wonderful flirting techniques. Some of them I didn't quite believe, like holding a glass of wine to the hollow of your throat (read the book, you'll see what I mean), but I tried it, and damn if it doesn't work. I also loved the role-playing in public idea. And yes, I tried that out, too. And yep, it made both me and him so excited that we tore each other's clothes off when we finally got to the bed part. My man wants to know what's gotten into me lately, but I won't tell. But I hope he never takes a look on my underwear drawer, or he'll find my little secret reference manual. Like the books says . . . "Some secrets we need to keep to ourselves!"

Lesson #1,

The book cover makes you stop and look. The title makes you open the book. The summary puts you on the hook. Definitely judge this book by its cover. You'll find some of lifes little lessons that you haven't yet learned. Read on my sista'.
Realize that you too can be that sensuous woman on the cover, on the inside where it counts. After reading this book, all those things that you imagined were stopping you just seem to be silly and drift away. I am the she that thought she was... after reading this book I AM A SENSUOUS BLACK WOMAN! Some days sisters, we sensuous women can simmer sensuality and the brothers just want you to share it. It's all good. This book confirms what I already know. To please your man is to please YOURSELF!... and vice versa. Miss T let's you know that it's alright to be naughty no matter what anyone else says. Don't be a hata' be a participata' (he'll love you for it and give over the power). This book has only been out for a minute and already it's dog-earred. Don't lend it to your sister, buy it for her. No disrespect, but this is the Sensuous Womans Bible. Can I get an amen?

The Guide to Becoming the Sensuous Black Woman and Drive Your Man Wild In and Out of Bed,

This review is from: The Guide to Becoming the Sensuous Black Woman (And Drive Your Man Wild In and Out of Bed!) (Paperback)
I am going to have to go against the grain and critique this book a little more on the negative side than the rest of the reviews here. Don't get me wrong, I did not HATE the book, and I think "Miss T" gives SOME good advice (e.g. flirting tips), however, it was not the "exciting and stimulating read" for me that it was to one reviewer, simply because I did have a few problems with the book that aided in diminishing its validity.
First, it was riddled with spelling and grammatical errors (I suppose that's the editor fault - Karen E. Quinones Miller- since it is the job of an editor to correct those mistakes). Secondly, Gynecologists everywhere would absolutely CRINGE at some of the advice she give (I know a lifesafer sounds good in theory, but I'd check w/ the good ole doc before I tried that one). Ladies, if you are overdue for a Yeast Infection, take some of "Miss T's" advice. Third, I felt she could have delved a bit deeper into some of the topics. It read a bit choppy at times. Lastly, I also agree with another reviewer who didn't approve of her materialistic approach to getting a man - but hey, that's just me. Other than that, it was "fun". There is some advice in there that's good and worth taking note of, but nothing that I've never read about before. Miss T, please get another editor! Poorly written material discredits your work!

GIRLFRIEND PUT IT ALL OUT THERE!,
By Serene Jones (Newark, NJ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Guide to Becoming the Sensuous Black Woman (And Drive Your Man Wild In and Out of Bed!) (Paperback)
Admittedly there were some things which I already knew about, but I'm gotta admit she sure schooled me on a few others. Like the Alum trick. I'm not in a position in my life where I'd have to use it right now, but hey . . . you never know when it may come in handy in the future.
And that lifesaver trick? Pure genious! There are some things which the author wrote about that I'll never try (and if I did I wouldn't tell anyone), but there are things in the book which have piqued my curiousity, and I'm going to be adding to my own bag of tricks. The book is good. Ain't nothing else I can say about it.

Oh So Sensual,
By
This review is from: The Guide to Becoming the Sensuous Black Woman (And Drive Your Man Wild In and Out of Bed!) (Paperback)
In Miss T.'s book "The Guide to Becoming the Sensuous Black Woman" she helps black women to begin to appreciate their bodies and as a result become more sensual. Miss T. believes that being sensual means loving yourself and being in touch with your senses, your very being. She urges black women to value ourselves as the sensate creatures we are. She invites us to taste, feel, smell, and be in the moment as we explore our bodies. She declares that no man can resist a sensual black woman.
Why is this book a guide for black women? Since the days of the objectification of the Hotten Tot Venus, black women's sexuality has been relegated to the physical. In other words, we have been seen as merely sexual creatures with "abnormal" physical dimensions such as grapefruit sized breasts, melon sized buttocks, voluptuous hips and thick lips- but that's it. Sadly most black women do not fit the mold of western standards of beauty so we internalize the distortion of our bodies and grow to hate ourselves as a result. Most black women, me included, were not taught how to be sensual, so we chase after being sexy instead of learning how to become sensual much to the detriment of ourselves and our relationships. Miss T. celebrates being a black woman who truly loves herself for all the reasons the world has tried to put her down- her hips, nose, lips, butt- her blackness! Ladies, now that the mushiness is out of the way, be sure to read her tips on swallowing, the Lifesaver trick, and anal sex (if that's your thing). Your man will definitely appreciate it, but most importantly, you will love it.

Well what can I say, The Guide To Becoming the Sensuous Black Woman is a very exciting and stimulating read. Included are things that make you go hmmm! From my own personal experience, there are some truths and there are others that have you taking notes in order to add them to the spontaneous express. Those of you who say sex is overrated, I'm with Luda, "you ain't doin' it right!" Sistahs, I'm saying if the sex life is a little dull then read on and find out how to get in tune with your own sensuality so you can pique his interest in and out of the bed!
A very skillful book, but remember ladies these are things that shouldn't be revealed to the men in our lives. Reviewed by: Peaches

IT'S ONE THING TO READ NOVELS ABOUT SEX AND EROTICA, AND IT'S A WHOLE OTHER THING TO READ A NON-FICTION BOOK ON HOW TO LAY IT DOWN RIGHT. WELL THIS BOOK DOES JUST THAT!
THE AUTHOR GIVES ALL KINDS OF TIPS ON INCREASING SENSUALITY, AND A WHOLE BUNCH OF TIPS ON SEX. LIKE HOW TO GIVE THE PERFECT BL*W JOB, ETC. WHEW! BUT THE BOOK AIN'T NASTY . . . IT'S JUST INFORMATIVE. THAT'S BECAUSE OF THE AUTHOR'S WRITING STYLE. SHE AIN'T TRYING TO IMPRESS OR TO SHOW OUT, SHE'S JUST LAYING IT OUT FOR PEOPLE TO LEARN. AND I'LL TAKE MISS T. OVER DR. RUTH ANY DAY. I ONLY READ THE BOOK OVER THE WEEKEND, SO I AIN'T HAD A CHANCE TO TRY ANY OF HER LITTLE TRICKS YET, BUT I AIN'T GOT NO DOUBT THEY'RE GONNA WORK. SO LIKE I SAID BEFORE. . . Y'ALL GOT THAT "AMEN" YOU'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR! AND A BIG FAT "HALLELUAH" TOO!

I shoulda had this book years ago!,

This review is from: The Guide to Becoming the Sensuous Black Woman (And Drive Your Man Wild In and Out of Bed!) (Paperback)
As a thirty-something African-American woman whose been around the block way too many more times than I want to admit, I do have to say that I am very impressed with this book, and wish I had read it years ago. I can't say that I've had any serious self-esteem issues, but we've all had some from time-to-time, haven't we? And this book is a good shot in the arm for those with low self-esteem and a good booster for those who only need an ocassional self-esteem boost. I'm not even going to talk about the sex tips (except to say to the author, YOU GO, GIRL!), but I do have to say that the instructions on flirting are simply MAGNIFICENT! And I love the way she starts off her chapters with personal anectodes. It really makes you feel like you're talking to someone, not just reading them. The book is informative, entertaining, and at times downright funny. But most importantly, it's a must read for all African-American woman, not just ones trying to land a man.

Better than I thought it would be!,
By Rita Monroe (Baltimore, MD) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Guide to Becoming the Sensuous Black Woman (And Drive Your Man Wild In and Out of Bed!) (Paperback)
I actually bought this book as a gift for my younger sister (she's 21, and about to graduate from college), but before I giving it to her I skimmed through a few pages myself.
Okay, I've decided to keep the book. I'll just have to buy her another copy. I like the message of the book, learning to love yourself, and concentrating on your good physical features more than your bad, but I really liked the sensuality exercises, and of course the sex tips. In fact, some of the sex tips made me feel stupid because I was like "Duh! Why didn't I think of that?" I've read other books which give out sensuality exercises, but this is the first book that actually inspired me to actually try them. Listen, hokey as it may sound, they really work. My advice is not to skip and skim through the book, but actually really read it and take in what it says. Following the advice will make a difference in the way you feel about yourself. I recommend this book to young women like my sister, but also more mature women like myself. You're never to old to learn some new tricks! |
