This review is from: Guide to Byzantine Iconography (Paperback)
In my opinion this book is a very good book for someone wanting to learn about Byzantine Icons. The book deals with traditional Byznatine iconography. In the first part of the book Mr. Cavarnos covers the history themes and style of Byzantine Iconography. He talkes about the palcement of figures , what items should or should not be included in the icon, what colors are traditionaly used, how the back grounds are done and why they used inverted prespective in icons as well as the psychological perspective. The rest of the book covers the classification of icons, and where in the traditonal Byzantine Church they would be placed. he lists all of the major icons and goes into detail about the placement in the Church and the compostion of each one. He includes Bible passages to explaine why certine things are included in the icons.
