5.0 out of 5 stars A LOT OF INFORMATION IN A SMALL BOOK!, September 11, 2007
By
This review is from: Guide to Civil War Nashville (Paperback)
Wow, was I impressed with this book when it arrived! I'm not sure whether to call this a history book, or a tour book, but in any case, it amply does the job of both. All bases are covered, the importance of Nashville during the Civil War, the campaigns that led up to and followed the battle, the actual Battle of Nashville, landmarks, tour guides, historic structures, markers, maps galore, and on and on. Even GPS coordinates are give for many of the historic sites! Great consist history, loaded with pictures, wonderful maps. The maps are superb, showing battle lines imposed over the streets, location of historic structures, the city, sketches of the fortifications, etc. You can take a tour of the battle without leaving your favorite chair, but if you are in town, you will not find a better battlefield guide. This is all the more important as this significant battle does not have a designated park. Zimmerman did a splendid job on this work, and I wish he'd consider a larger, expanded edition taking in even more of the surviving structures from the city and battle that played a role in the war. Highly recommended and sure not to disappoint.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must read for Nashvillians and vistors!, December 2, 2008

I agree with the above reviews and would add that this benefits the Battle of Nashville Preservation Society which has saved some of the last remaining sites around Nashville. Since Nashville was a well established city at the time of the Civil War, much of the battlefield was developed at the time or shortly thereafter. This guides you to areas that most people here drive by every day but know little about. Several of the sites to the southwest of town are buried in residential areas and are not easy to find. This is a great book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book, October 26, 2008
This review is from: Guide to Civil War Nashville (Paperback)
I used this book when visiting Nashville. It's has much information including photographs and GPS coordinates of monuments, sites etc. I could not have enjoyed my trip to Nashville as much as I did without this book. If you're planning a trip to Nashville to see the Civil War sites......buy it!! You won't be sorry.
