Good ideas; easy-reading format.,

I found this book helpful in its practical suggestions on preparing for survey, as well as keeping our facility "surveyor ready." I gave "Nuts and Bolts" four stars because of its easy and friendly reading. However, two things kept interrupting my involvement with this book. Was Carolyn Casey Frazier referring only to long-term care compliance in Texas? I had to crosscheck several statements with my own state's regulations. Indeed, they did not all apply. The other problem I had with this text -and which took away from its credibility - were the number of spelling errors, incorrect use of acronyms and grammatical bloopers. Good grief. I get embarrassed for our profession at times. One example revealed the word "heal" used several times in reference to the anatomical part of the foot. I feel the publisher, editors and proofreaders did the author an injustice.

This is a very good compliance book. Gives lots of ideas, a few forms. Would be very good for a new DON or a new QA employee.

What Everyone Needs to Know About Nursing Homes,
By Janet L Thompson (Humble, Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Guide to Compliance in Long Term Care : The Nuts and Bolts of Staying in Compliance (Paperback)
This book is fantastic! I am an assistant superintendent of schools and I can see that Mrs. Frazier understands the meaning of a state compliance visit. We have the same kinds of compliance visits in the field of education. This book would really help a family know what to look for when trying to make the difficult decision of placing a loved one in a nursing home. It would also be very helpful for nursing students to read and comprehend this text.
