A Survey of Theory for Teaching College Writing,
By Christopher LeCluyse (Westminster College, Salt Lake City, UT) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Guide to Composition Pedagogies (Paperback)
Those familiar with teaching college-level composition will appreciate this book's thorough survey of composition theories and pedagogies. It may not be the practical guide that the previous reviewer wanted (nor does it pretend to be), but it encapsulates the major movements in how writing has been taught at a college level since the 19th century. At times, that density can be a little overwhelming--certain authors treat their chapters more like literature reviews--but the book cannot be faulted for thoroughness. For a more hands-on look at the teaching of writing, I recommend Bean's _Engaging Ideas_.

I bought this book for a class, and am surprised at how much I've enjoyed it. It is much easier to get through than similar texts I've read.

Nothing special - needed it for class. Be detailed and specific. What would you have wanted to know before you purchased the product? Not too short and not too long. Aim for between 75 and 300 words. |
