Book Description

Guide to Series December 1, 1998
The Connecticut Shore's attractions extend far beyond its beaches, as you'll discover in this ultimate reference to the state's coastal communities. Heavily urbanized in some parts and pristinely rural in others, the Connecticut shoreline includes a world-famous university, fishing villages, lighthouses, museums, and historic homes.

Use this completely updated guide to find seafood restaurants, beautiful beaches, parks and nature preserves, antiquing, shopping, campgrounds, cottage rentals, seaside inns, boating excursions, charters, eco-cruises, public boat launches, carousels, amusement areas, and places for family fun.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Boyle, a lifelong resident of the Connecticut shore, focuses on the 29 towns spread along the 120-mile Connecticut coast. Within this narrow scope she can afford to linger a while and savor some of the area's more obscure attractions. The entries, arranged geographically, provide all the required listings regarding accommodations, rates, and operating hours as well as information on annual events, such as dogwood festivals and fireworks displays. Also included is a history and profile of each town conveying the general character of the community and five special indexes covering topics such as beaches, museums, and seafood shacks. While photographs would have been a nice inclusion, Boyle's prose is so visual it made me homesick. A good resource for the traveler, armchair or otherwise; recommended for public libraries with strong regional/travel collections.AThomas O'Connell, Murray State Univ. Lib., KY

Review

"This is a tell-all, nook and cranny description of Connecticut's finest finds. Doe gives the nuts and bolts of where to stay, what to do, and where to go."

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor, no real experience with Connecticut, December 17, 2004
By
The author claims to be a life-long resident of CT. Wrong! She lived in L.A. while searching for a husband. To write about life in Connecticut is very strange for someone who grew up in Greenfield Hill (Ffld.) and got a free education at Fairfield University. The author never spent a single moment actually going to the locations mentioned. She collected marketing information from each attraction and just did some editing. It's sad. Connecticut deserves better than to have promotional hype dribbled by the writer of childrens books. The author should stick with what she does best, make up fantasy stories for the little ones. You are better off buying the AAA Motor Club Travel Guide than to waste your money on this lemon in it's third re-write. Save a tree, don't waste your money. Visit Connecticut and experience it's treasures on your own.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality, March 14, 2001
By A Customer
I did not find this guide very helpful. The binding was of poor quality and the book fell apart after only a few days of use - travel guides should be durable to last at least a week long vacation. The information was not all that useful either.
