Not Quite "...EVERYTHING You Need To Know...",
By A Customer
This review is from: A Guide to DFW Private Schools: A Handbook of Everything You Need to Know About the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex Private Schools (Paperback)
I was surprised to see some of the top private schools in Dallas left out of this book, including Hockaday (all girls), Greenhill, and Jesuit (all boys), other than an address and phone number listing. Other good schools like Tyler Street Christian Academy also overlooked. These are just the schools that I noticed missing. This book is just facts (almost like they sent a questionnaire to each school and indexed them 3 different ways) and some of the facts are incorrect, such as the address of First Baptist (they are actually located on Ervay in Dallas, not at a P.O. Box outside of Dallas). Because they use addresses to index the schools (in one section), it was only by chance that I found First Baptist. Book offers no thoughts from parents or students, no success rates, no college entrance stats, no college grad info, etc. Also, no general information on private school pros and cons. The accreditation organizations and their methods are not explained.

This book does not have all the DFW Private schools listed. There isn't any information in this book that you could not find on the website. Just factoids. There are so many schools left out, I don't trust any of the information. Saint Thomas Aquinas, Hockaday, Jesuit. Just visit their websites and save your (money)!

I just purchased the 5th edition and it was so helpful. It was over 800 pages and the alphabetical listing of schools made it so easy to find what I was looking for. It was well worth the money and helped me faciliate my search for my two young boys. Thank You, Lynn Magid!!!!

I found this book to be extremely well organized in a manner that was user friendly. There was a very complete list of over 350 schools organized alphabetically. This book was helpful in my search to find the right private school for my child. I would recomend it to any other parent or any person looking to become more informed about the private schools in Dallas.

Not Impressed,

I was not impressed with this book at all. It is as though the author sent a questionnaire to each school and then simply published whatever she received back, with absolutely no research or investigation. The information is organized 3 different ways, none of which are intuitive or easy to maneuver. It seems as if they were just looking for a way to fill up the book. Many of the top name schools are not listed, which makes me wonder how many of the lesser-known name schools are missing. Some of the schools profiles read like an advertisement from their brochure. There is more information online that is worthwhile and helpful, not to mention many of the private schools now have web sites...

An Excellent Supplement to My Personal School Quest,

This review is from: A Guide to Dfw Private Schools: A Handbook of Everything You Need to Know About the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex Private Schools / with Addendum V (Paperback)
As a single parent and father of three, finding "the right" schools for my kids has always been a challenge. In 1992, when I sent my first daughter to school, I spent a lot of time and money trying to find a perfect match for her unique learning needs. After wasting valuable time calling and researching different schools, we settled on a place that didn't work in the long run. I had to start the search all over again. The whole thing seemed unnecessarily difficult.
Then I found Lynn Magid's A Guide To DFW Private Schools. The book helped localize all the necessary information about schools in the DFW region to help me find the right schools for my kids without all of the confusion, frustration, and headaches that it takes when you do it alone.
