5.0 out of 5 stars Tips I hadn't thought of! March 12, 2012
Verified Purchase
I'm not good at organizing, but I do try. Even so, I end up with stuff that I don't know where to put. This book takes a very straightforward approach that people like me can use. For instance, the author tells me why I can't get organized and was absolutely correct. Just knowing that one point will help me remind myself how to know where something should go.

Very useful tips on getting more space in each room in your home and keeping it organized. I certainly recommend this for disorganized people like me!

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Basic July 11, 2012

Okay, I can't be too critical of this book since I received it free as an Amazon daily special. However, I definitely would not pay for this book.

I bought the book yesterday and finished it in about 15 minutes. It is very brief and contains only the most basic principles about decluttering. If you have ever read a magazine article or book about decluttering or organizing, you will not find a single new idea in this book. The author offers some storage ideas but there are no illustrations or pictures to describe what she is talking about. It's all very familiar advice, though - like using the space under your bed.

I can summarize the book for you:

1) Know why you want a clutter-free home and write the reasons down. This will motivate you.
2) Grab you empty carboard boxes and sort (you know - give away, throw away, sell, move to a different room, etc.)
3) Go through one room at a time until your house is completely decluttered.
4) It's easier to maintain order if every item has a home and you pick up as you go.

That's it in a nutshell.

She does offer tips for getting the kids to help which I read through pretty quickly because I don't have children in the home anymore.

I'm sorry. I really wanted to like this book and find something new in it but I couldn't.

If you can get it for free, I wouldn't hestitate.

After feeling the need to get lots of things done at once and starting to stress about it, I decided it was time I clean things up.

This guide provided a simple solution to decluttering and organizing so that I already feel relieved, less stressed and more productive. I was amazed at some of the simple advice which allowed me to really feel like I could have things clean and organized much faster than I usually do.

This is a great book for anyone that needs to get organized and declutter!

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple, Focused Book on Getting Focused in Your Life March 15, 2012

It took me a while to write this review as I had to find my Kindle. Of course, my Kindle was buried under a metaphorical ton of clutter. I can't believe sometimes how much clutter I am faced with. Enter this excellent guide into my life. Okay, first, you might need to get beyond the title. As I read through the book, I discovered that there is no need to fear that there will be much profanity- if that is a concern of yours. Just the title is odd.

The content of this book is very good and I am starting to implement the ideas already. I love the four-box idea. The checklist at the start of the book about "why" we'd want to live free of clutter is very good. The advice about the need for everyday vigilance really has poked me right in brain and challenged me to rethink my clutter.

Overall, this is a focused book and one that contains useful content. Finding practical books like this is why I own a Kindle. This Kindle, by the way, now has an actual home in my home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick book that got straight to the point April 13, 2012

I picked this up simply because I wanted a quick book that got straight to the point of how to get my junk sorted out - it gave me that and more. I didn't realize that I am a marketers dream we have so many buy-buy-buy/have-have-have advertising messages thrown at us daily and I didn't realize before reading this that I succumbed to this marketing far more then I realized. I actually managed to get rid of far more things then I thought I would. I'm also amazed that because of my new awareness I'm saving money and not adding clutter at the same time which after reading this book is so easy! I (obviously) highly recommend this one!!

This year was my year to sort my messy apartment out and this book was responsible for making it so easy. I like the no nonsense nature of the book that makes it quick to consume and apply. I just followed the plan and the clutter was sorted in a flash. I now have only one thing left to do and that's to sell everything Ive realized I no longer need (that's neatly stored in the spare room). I'm estimating I have about $2000 worth of clutter that I never realized I had so I'm stoked!

5.0 out of 5 stars Some Very Good Ideas March 15, 2012
Verified Purchase
Good ideas in a book with an unfortunate title. Probably the most profound revelation (indictment) in the book is the idea that "physical clutter may be the result of what is going on in your mind." Scary thought! The author also points out that de-cluttering is simple, but quickly points out that it probably will not be easy. Bottom line is that habits are hard to break. The book is a quick read and is indeed filled with many good ideas and tips to bring success.
