"Shallow" comes at you with a menacing guitar hook that has an industrial metal feel to them. Lacey Conner's vocals are a little too cutesy for the music that supports her here. The thick, muddy bass line that dominates "I Lie" is very reminiscent of something The Cure might have done. Nocturne explores more industrial sounds and tones on "Alibi". This may be they're attempt at penning some type of gothic anthem. On "Passion", Lacey's vocals switch from melodic to raw black metal style vocals. This style suits her and the band the best.

"Class War" is comprised of crushing riffs, driving rhythms, and spiteful and furious vocals at their best. "Dirty Sanchez" walks to a death march like beat. It's not as dirty as you might think. In fact, the song is short on lyrics, but it's the sound that carries it anyway. Lacey becomes an evil witch casting a deadly spell on the punishing death metal track "No Way Out". "Cocaine Sex" explores more of Conner's sexuality as it delves into how you can make a good thing better.

The Bad
Lacey Conner splits her vocal style between melodic and death/black metal style. It's the latter that suits the music better. The dark toned songs just don't have the same effect when sung melodically.

The Verdict
Most of the reviews I've read for this release have been unflattering. Granted there are some rough spots here and there, but I don't think they take away from the album as a whole. Nocturne combine the best parts of Cradle of Filth, Nine Inch Nails, and Lords of Acid to make an album so `evil' and compelling, that even `good spirits' will want to check it out.

Found out about this band after seeing them perform on the Rock of Love Reunion. I then purchased the CD from Amazon. It is one of the best CD's I have heard in years. Not a bad track on the whole thing.

I first learned about Nocturne on VH1's rock of love which featured lead female vocalist Lacey. After checking out their music I was highly impressed with her vocal abilities and rushed to get their newest album. This is a great album and I look forward to future releases from this dynamic group!
