5.0 out of 5 stars The Only Sewing Book You Need to Own
There is no other book that will improve your sewing techniques like this one can. Each section shows the home seamstress how professionals approach garment construction. Every part of a garment is put together step by step, and the terrific drawings leave nothing in question. Instructions are easy to understand and straightforward even for the most difficult...

3.0 out of 5 stars Actually a little disappointed
I bought this sewing guide looking for the advanced time-saving construction techniques used in the garment industry. Sadly, I didn't find them in this book, despite the glowing reviews. It is a good textbook and reference manual on basic sewing. The information is clearly presented with excellent and plentiful illustrations. However, the skills depicted are ones I...

However, the skills depicted are ones I mastered quite a while ago. I will keep this book in place of others in my library, but this was an expensive experiment. I would not recommend this book to anyone over an intermediate skill level.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a method to this madness!, February 14, 2003
Our school FIDM uses this book as a textbook and all out reference to sewing in the fashion industry. It has detailed step by step diagrams and explains each step. It shows you the easier way to achieving the results you want. I highly recommend this book if you are a beginner or just need a reference book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A concise, clear, practical guide, April 18, 2004
By A Customer
This book gives the most concise method of garment construction, using methods used in the factory along with reasons for doing so. Skip the home sewing books, buy this one. I recommend it in my sewing classes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth it for just one technique, August 28, 2007
This review is from: A Guide to Fashion Sewing (4th Edition) (Paperback)
While many of the techniques are covered in some of the other sewing textbooks you might have read one techique in particular stands out to me as I have never seen this elsewhere is how to sew a all in one facing professionally. Normally the intructions tell you to leave the shoulder seams open and then "hand sew" them. Not this one it shows you how to do the factory way. If you don't own any other sewing books then this is the one to get

3.0 out of 5 stars Errors and odd terminology give me pause on this one, April 21, 2011
By
I have a lot of respect for Connie Crawford, and there is a lot of good info here, but in just a cursory look through this book, I found enough errors and annoyances to make me think it needs a major editorial review. First of all, she always refers to the right side of a garment as the "correct side." Every book and every pattern you will ever see in your lifetime, except this one, call it the "right side" of the garment. It's jarring to read "correct side" every time I turn a page. (At least she doesn't refer to the wrong side as the "incorrect side!") In one of the waistband sections, the illustration shows (correctly) turning the waistband to the wrong side of the fabric, but the accompanying text says to turn it to the correct side of the fabric. Finally, her very brief comment on pant fitting shows sewing a deeper crotch curve as a "flat tush adjustment." In fact this deeper curve would be for a "full tush adjustment." A flat tush requires a flatter curve, not a rounder one. Imagine the shape of the body part fitting into the pant, and you can see the error. It's surprising, and I look forward to a corrected updated version of this excellent book.

This review is from: A Guide to Fashion Sewing (4th Edition) (Paperback)
This was a purchased as a text for a sewing class and is an excellent book for new sewers. It offers more than the necessary fundamentals but gives perspective and incite for a professional sewing outcome.

It's a perfect sewing companion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great service, great price, April 10, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: A Guide to Fashion Sewing (4th Edition) (Paperback)
This book is something of a standard for the home sewer and priced in fabric/sewing stores at about $90.00. The price at Amazon was about $30.00. The book was new , arrived in pristine condition and in about 10 days. All in all - a great experience.
