Pistol size should be considered,

I am able to fit 3 small pistols which are CCW sized in this box easily with mags. I could try to fit 4, but why since it will just make them rub in the box. The capacity may be correct if you are using derringers in the box. I would say it will fit 2 45's with mags comfortably, but I don't have any that size. Locks work, box is functional and looks good. Still a deal.

So-So packaging - arrived with slight damage. Combination locks didn't work - the locks are made VERY poorly considering the price.

Guide Gear Pistol Case,

The case itself is sturdy and does what it is designed for. However, the locks on this case are cheaply made and leave much to be desired. Too bad, with better locks this would be a 5 star case.

Great for transporting you pistols to the range. Locking system works great. Seems to be very durable and will last for many, many years.

Fine for the Range - Don't Fly With It,

I really liked the case when it arrived. I could easily fit 5 pistols with room for extra mags and speed loaders. Then I decided to visit Dad in Nevada. It took 1 flight for me to realize this was not a good case to fly with, and expect your guns to arrive safely. Sadly, I ignored myself and flew again. and then again, and then one last time. Each trip resulted in more and more damage to my weapons, but greater damage to the case...broken feet, scored panel sides, but the latches held firm. After trying to find other reasonably priced cases to protect my firearms, none of which proved as well crafted or durable as this one, I flew that 4th time, leaving my Beretta Stampede at home this time.I added bubble wrap to the packaging, in a vain attempt to protect the 5 pistols I flew with this time. No good. This trip one entire side of the case was peeled up like cheap aluminum siding in a hurricane. One stainless steel corner piece was shattered, and the pistols were banged up even more, despite the extra padding. The baggage repair shop returned the case as unrepairable - no kidding!! Well, I learned my lesson. Use this bag for ground transport. It held up extremely well through 4 years of trips to the range (by auto). It's a nice looking bag, and the 2 separately coded combination locks are a nice bonus. The carrying handle is also very easy on the hands, even when full. For my next flight I purchased a Pelican 1600 case, with pluck and pull pre-cut foam insides. I plucked out 5 pistol shaped (custom fit to my pieces) holes in the middle layer of foam. The instructions guide you to pluck out the top piece of foam, but no thanks. I have a 2" layer of foam on the bottom of the case, a 2" layer of foam securely holding my weapons, and an un-plucked top 2" layer form to hold my magazines and speed loaders, all sealed in an egg-crate foam layer in the lid to keep everything secure. It was more than double the cost of the Guide Gear case, but I'm traveling with several thousand dollars of pistols that were getting beat to death in the Guide Gear bag....probably taking 3 or 4 times the cost of the Pelican case off the value of my mini-arsenal. |
