5.0 out of 5 stars These are very sturdy quality shorts.
I have done just about everything in these things. Swimming, boating, hiking, yard work, bicycling, and much more. I even thought a few times that I had torn them, but they were fine. They take major punishment. I see that one other person complained about them being made of non-breathing material. From his message, I could see that he was wearing underwear under the...

I have done just about everything in these things. Swimming, boating, hiking, yard work, bicycling, and much more. I even thought a few times that I had torn them, but they were fine. They take major punishment. I see that one other person complained about them being made of non-breathing material. From his message, I could see that he was wearing underwear under the shorts. These are "commando" shorts! The mesh lining is all you need. If you wear anything under it, of course you'll get hot. I live in New Mexico with 100+ heat for months at a time, and assure you that these shorts are very comfortable and cool when worn properly (alone). The ONLY thing I don't like about these shorts are the "swish swish" sounds of the nylon rubbing against itself while walking. Gee - that's not much. Not enough to keep me from buying more! Not enough to even downgrade my rating. Buy these shorts - and wear them commando!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best shorts I have ever owned!, May 7, 2004

If you are looking for a pair of comfortable shorts that can take a day of hiking, camping, or just working outside -- then these are for you. They are made of Dupont Nylon and are ultra-lightweight and virtually stain resistant.

The pockets are one of the major features of these shorts. They contain "pockets within pockets" as I like to call them. The back pockets have a nylon mesh outter pocket -- perfect for carrying all the camping or hiking accesories -- plus a full regular pocket large enough to hold even the biggest wallet. In fact, you can even fold the shorts up and store them inside one of the pockets! Perfect for packing as tightly as possible on those long camping trips!

Overall, the best shorts out there for those who like to be outside. A perfect 10 in my book for comfort, durability and function.

I have a couple pairs of river shorts that I've worn out, and needed to replace, and these fit the bill perfectly.
Here's what I do in these shorts:
1) Work out at the club; the pockets come in handy for iPod
2) Go swimming or lounge in the hot tub
3) Run! Just any old shorts won't do, because my inner thighs chafe against each other. Has to be long shorts, and these are long enough to keep my thighs from rubbing against each other when I run.
4) General knock-around wear during the summertime (I live in the Seattle, WA area)
5) Play or coach soccer
6) Snorkeling or scuba diving in tropical waters on vacation
So instead of having to change attire a bunch of times, I can just wear one pair of shorts. Worst case is that I have to empty my pockets.
The pockets are substantial and useful, so I can carry my wallet around. The velcro pocket closure affords an extra degree of protection, e.g., against pickpockets. The built-in quick-release belt works just fine.
The fabrics and construction are very high quality, and I'm very happy with these.
