Decent value for the discount price, June 14, 2005
This review is from: Guide Gear Willow Hammock with Stand (Misc.)
This isn't a bad hammock. Not great, but not bad.
Actual shipped weight is 17 pounds. Frame is labelled "Seadrift Hammock" (which I find elsewhere, identical in appearance, except for the hammock material itself).
Setup instructions aren't terribly clear, but there's really only one way this thing can be assembled. It just might take some mild thinking beyond simply trying to follow the directions.
Seams appear somewhat weakly stitched, especially at the weight-bearing ends, but it holds (so far?). In addition, though not near the maximum weight of 250 lbs., I sink to within maybe 5-6 inches of the ground at my lowest point when on the hammock. It's not "bad", just a tad disconcerting when first settling in.
The poles that make up the frame can somewhat readily come apart if one is not slow and careful when trying to move the assembled hammock.
On the upside, it's pretty easy to remove the fabric portion if one doesn't want to leave it exposed to the elements for extended periods of time. (Taking apart and reassembling the frame regularly would be a moderate pain.)
Overall, this is a workable hammock and a decent value for the discount price. I doubt a bit how well it will hold up long-term (especially the fabric). I'd also suggest that someone who wants something for daily use, portability, or a longer-term investment look at something perhaps a *bit* more expensive.
For something to stick in one place on a backyard, patio, or balcony for the summer (and maybe beyond if care is taken), this works. Nothing fancy, and I'd make sure everything remains connected properly each time before putting weight on it, but for the price it's a respectable value.

NOT ALL ITS CRACKED UP TO BE, July 3, 2005
This review is from: Guide Gear Willow Hammock with Stand (Misc.)
THIS HAMMOCK IS OKAY, ONCE YOU FINALLY GET IT PUT TOGETHER. THE DIRECTIONS ARE VIRTUALLY USELESS. THE MATERIAL IS NOT GOOD QUALITY-THE SEAMS RIP VERY EASILY. ALSO, PUT THE ITEM TOGETHER IN THE SPOT THAT YOU WANT IT TO STAY IN BECAUSE IT WILL FALL APART ONCE YOU TRY TO MOVE IT. IT IS NICE TO LAY IN, ALTHOUGH A BIT LOW, BUT WE ARE UNSURE IF THIS PRODUCT WILL LAST AND WHETHER IT WAS WORTH THE PRICE.

Adequate as a cot replacement, August 12, 2005
This review is from: Guide Gear Willow Hammock with Stand (Misc.)
I bought this hammock rather than a cot for my basement to chillout in the summer heat. I'm pleased with the result for the money I spent.
Just a few criticisms however. The instructions weren't particularly good but I did finally get it together. The hooks tend to fall out when you enter and exit the hammock, but it is stable when you are inside.
It is fine if you want to sleep, read, or relax; it isn't good for swinging, and don't even think about having more than one adult in the hammock. It is a bit annoying that the material stretches to the extent that my butt is only 2 inches off the floor.
It is less expensive and I like the suspended feeling better than a cot, so long as you are aware of the negatives I'd recommend.
