4.0 out of 5 stars Good Practical Guide for Men of All Ages, March 29, 2009
This review is from: The Guide for Guys: An Extremely Useful Manual for Old Boys and Young Men (Hardcover)
"The Guide for Guys" is a practical read for any man who wants to know more about topics such as:

holding a baby, riding a horse, building a fire, making a great first impresssion, playing chess, hitting a golf ball, mowing the lawn, and a host of other topices.

Each chapter is around 3 pages and covers the highlights of a particular topic. While the book is full of common sense, we men sometimes need to be reminded.

The book flows smoothly and is an easy read - I was able to read through the book in one sitting.

Recommended.

This book is the perfect gift for guys between 14 and 21... I used it for my sons at Easter as a gag, and ended up buying several for high school graduation gifts for my son's group of friends. Every page or so is a helpful hint on how to do something (bowling, tie a tie, hold a baby, protect yourself during a fistfight, choose a cigar, prevent a hangover...). The guys LOVED it.

5.0 out of 5 stars What Every Young Man Needs to Know, December 19, 2010

I can remember my sister giving me Esquire Magazine's "What Every Young Man Should Know," as a Christmas present. It's no longer in print nor in my possession, but I remember prizing the book for a number of years. I think this book will do the same for my oldest great nephew, who is completing his senior year of high school. I'm also hoping it will be one of those "sleeper" Christmas presents, which means although it is not an I-Pad or an I-Pod, it just might turn out to be an answer on each topic or question that will send him to the book for information, for years to come. I'm banking on its appreciation appreciating.

There are approximately 70 different things that show or teach a young man how to do or what to do in different circumstances that parents or teachers might innocently neglect in teaching their son or charge: How to: give a speech, tie a tie, change a flat, survive an animal attack, complain and get results, order and eat sushi, learn chess, make a great first impression, train a dog, shave properly, carve a turkey, make small talk, jumpstart a car, write a thank you note, and how to shine your shoes. (Does anybody still do that? By the way, I recommend a woman's stocking for the final buff).

This book has a sturdy hard cover with a compass protruding from the front. It's 205 pages of information that I am counting on coming in handy for a man on the verge of adulthood.

So, Christian, you might not know how to create the ultimate bachelor pad, forecast the weather, or be able to determine north from south at dusk, but you will if you keep reading, and I hope this will speed you along that path. At your age it will give you knowledge you will never forget.

Merry Christmas, chief!

Uncle Ed

Gave this book as a gift to a friend, who is a little difficult to buy for. He really enjoyed it. Found it very intertaining.
