Book Description

November 2002
An important goal in the study of Kabbalah is to use one’s knowledge to influence one’s destiny. Firstly, one has to realize what life is, what its meaning is, why it is given to us, where it begins, and where it ends. After pondering and meditating on the above questions, one has to relate all this to Kabbalah. Kabbalah states that the Creator created all the worlds simultaneously, including our world, and we human beings have to use Kabbalah in our world, the finite material world. In order to further advance our understanding of the wisdom of Kabbalah, we need to lift our mind’s eye above the horizon of our material world. Kabbalah clarifies our perception of reality. A Guide to the Hidden Wisdom of Kabbalah provides the reader with a solid foundation for understanding the role of Kabbalah in our world. The contents were designed to allow individuals all over the world to begin traversing the initial stages of spiritual ascent toward the apprehension of the upper realms.

More About the Author

Michael Laitman is the founder and president of the Bnei Baruch Kabbalah Education & Research Institute, which is dedicated to teaching and sharing the wisdom of Kabbalah. Professor of Ontology, PhD in Philosophy and Kabbalah, and MSc in bio-Cybernetics. Father of three and grandfather of three.

Dr. Laitman has received the unlikely distinction of being today's foremost authority on authentic Kabbalah. His research and study led him to ancient sources which reveal a science about how the natural laws of living systems work in human thought and desire, and the direct way this impacts human relations globally.

He is the author of The Complete Idiots Guide to Kabbalah, as well as thirty other books on the subject published in fourteen languages. In his book, From Chaos to Harmony, written in 2005 - long before the current financial crisis erupted - he laid out in detail, what would cause it, the positive purpose the crisis would serve, and what change people would need to undergo to solve it.
A warm engaging personality, with a down-to-earth concern for others, Dr. Laitman spends his every waking hour writing, teaching and traveling the world to dialog and exchange ideas, taking insights from these encounters to bring the knowledge of nature's general law of love and interdependence down to a practical everyday level, where it's needed most - in the family, education, science, commerce and the arts. His goal is to empower individuals to connect and quickly influence change in human behavior, matching the challenge of the new world we all now face.

As a member of the World Wisdom Council, he has collaborated with scientists, spiritual and political leaders, thinkers, artists, academics and social theorists.

Together with all this activity, he runs the Bnei Baruch international educational institute which provides open web-based classes daily on www.kab.tv, and produces books, films, a TV channel and other media all dedicated to the message of the unity of people, nations and the love of humanity - and all of it provided completely free to everyone who wants it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally!! All the real answers!!, February 13, 2003
This review is from: A Guide to the Hidden Wisdom of Kabbalah (Paperback)
Quote from the introduction:
"Man has always been looking for answers to the basic questions of life: Who am I? What is the purpose of my being here? Why does the world exist? Do we continue to exist after our physical being has completed its tasks? In this world of constant pressure, some find temporary satisfaction in Eastern techniques, measures aimed at relaxation, or reducing suffering by minimizing personal expectations and desires. Various forms of meditation, nutrition, and physical and mental exercise quiet man's natural instincts and enable him to feel more comfortable from the point of view of his physical state. This process teaches him to lower his expectations, yet leaves him in conflict with his true desires. Our life experience teaches us that we have unlimited desires but limited resources to satisfy them. This is the reason there is no way to completely avoid suffering. That is the subject of Kabbalah.

Kabbalah answers the basic questions of life. The essential questions of man's being add another dimension to human suffering. They do not allow us to feel satisfied even when this or that goal has been fulfilled. When one attains the goal he is striving for, he immediately feels he's missing yet another pleasure. This prevents him from enjoying his achievements, and his suffering is renewed. In retrospect, he sees that he has spent most of his time making an effort to achieve his goals, and has gained very little pleasure from success itself. Everyone, each in his own way, tries to answer these questions from the sources of information at his disposal. Each one of us formulates our own perception of the world based on our experience. Reality and everyday life constantly put this perception to the test, making us react, improve, or otherwise change it. With some of us, this process occurs on a conscious level; with others it happens unconsciously.

Kabbalah reaches out to all those who are seeking awareness. It teaches you how to add an essential feeling of the spiritual sphere - the sixth sense - that will affect your life in this world. This will allow you to perceive the upper world and gain control of your life."

5.0 out of 5 stars Complex, intriguing, sophisticated, authentic, January 8, 2004

Rav Laitman is arguably the most relevant Kabbalist of our time, a student of Baruch Ashlag, the son of Rav Yehuda Ashlag, who everyone agrees was the greatest Kabbalist of the 20th century. This book gets very technical in certain areas, but repeatedly reminds the reader that s/he need not instantly understand all of the information intellectually. He stresses that it is more important to make the effort to read the material and be open to learning in your heart rather than your head.

5.0 out of 5 stars A guide to the Hidden Wisdom of Kabbalah, March 3, 2003

This review is from: A Guide to the Hidden Wisdom of Kabbalah (Paperback)
There's a tremendous amount of a very wise and searching approach
to Kabbalah compressed in this book. If you somehow only glanced at
the title and said, "Oh, another title in kabbalah ......" and passed on by, you will have missed an opportunity to connect not
only with knowledge about wisdom, however you think of it, but with the deeper parts of yourself -- your soul, your potentials.
Rabbi Laitman opens up the issue of Kabbalah as a science,
which requires study and honesty with one's self,-- and a wilingness to "think outside of the box".
Kabbalah as taught here in a way asks you
to remain engaged in your surroundings or do what's required in this very physical world. It
is not a book that focusses on any kind of technique -- the
study is to help one understand and increase one's desire for
Greater Reality, desire for what is needed to move all of humanity towards its ultimate goal and fulfillment. I have found
this book both user-friednly, clear, but with a challenge to
heart and mind that invigorates. I highly recommend it!
