You know those stories where you get to know the world and the characters so completely that you never want the book to end? The kind where you watch the unread pages dwindling and despair? Well, the three novels of Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games trilogy definitely fit into that category for me! And when I saw that the talented Ms Carpenter had written this nifty guide - covering all three Hunger Games books in a single tome (and what a sumptuously designed tome it is!!) - well, I kind of knew I had to make it mine!!!! I didn't regret my decision either ;) this book is everything I'd hoped for and more. Not only did it call to mind all manner of little details of the books that I'd forgotten, it was such a great experience to see the trilogy through a fresh pair of eyes. Never before had I imagined the kind of personal ad that cantankerous old Haymitch might have penned to attract a soulmate . . . so thank you Miss Carpenter for making that particular imaginative leap. Whatever your knowledge of the Hunger Games, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. It'll enrich your experience of the Games like no other commentary I've read . . . enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome! March 31, 2012
By Meesa
Format:Paperback
Filled with info on Panem, quizzes such as "Which Tribute Are You [in the 74th Hunger Games]" and "How Much Do You Know About Panem". The author has included one section for each book in the Hunger Games trilogy, a drawing and bio for each main character. Needless to say, I've really enjoyed this "Panem Fieldguide". Two thumbs up!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty neat! December 19, 2012

I bought this book for a classroom activity. I have a big hunger games unit and the children have to pick their districts and design there costumes. The book has lots of pictures and information about the districts and the tributes and the kids loved the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOL I know, I know... April 19, 2012
Format:Paperback
Yes, I'm a HG novice... I saw the movie first, then bought and read the books [3 times so far]... not PhD level writing/depth, but... I have a penchant for dystopic stories/societies.... This is first class. The focus on food [esp. poignant for the starving/youthful Katniss] makes this recipe book a must-buy. I was pleasantly surprised to find several [so far] of the recipes to be nearly identical to the ones I already use/enjoy... What a nice surprise!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good book May 18, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is an introduction to the book as well as the movie. If you're not familiar with The Hunger Games, I suggest reading this book before seeing the movie. It will help explain some things that the movie doesn't explain, like avoxes (capital slaves who've had their tongues cut out for treason).

3.0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware October 4, 2012
Format:Paperback
This is (very) little more than an abreviated recap of the book. so if you've read the book (as i have), and dont care about the few pages that are on history and the definitions of various words (as i dont) then this is not for you... PS: Weird how it came out at the same time as the movie, innit?

1.0 out of 5 stars Amazing! March 20, 2012
Format:Paperback
As the blurb above says: Isn't it amazing how this book came out "just in time" to coincide with the release of the movie? Wow. You'd think it was planned in advance or something.
