Excellent resource for anyone working in performing arts,

This review is from: The New Tax Guide for Performers, Writers, Directors, Designers and Other Show Biz Folk: 4th Edition (Limelight) (Paperback)
Written in a breezy, easy-to-understand style, this book is a must for anyone--actor or otherwise--who works in the performing arts field. The author understands the unique nature of their jobs and how it relates to taxes, deductions, etc. It will save you money in the long run. The only problem I have is that it only comes out every two years.

My daughter is a working actor and this has been very helpful for both of us to understand the types of records she needs to keep and specifically what is and is not tax deductible.

A snappy read for the perfect solutions for taxes, which are often confusing,in the business of entertaining. Self-employment info when the need is great ,and you want to know what's going on instead of trusting others to handle your money.

This is a good book, and the writing is clear, but the book itself reads very dry. Writers and artists are right-brained people by nature and I think that this book would be better if there were a few things that the author would change:
1. The writing could be a little less dry. The "Taxes for Dummies" books are a good example of how to make taxation a little easier to digest. 2. The author could interject more funny stories to prove his points. He has a few in the book, and this is the time when the writer is at his best. The stories are lighthearted while still being informative and allow the tax material to be understood in more "layman's" terms. 3. The type is small. The book would be easier to read if the font was increased. |
