5.0 out of 5 stars GUIDE TO RUSSIAN SILVER HALLMARKS, May 11, 2007
A well researched, scholarly work,jamb-packed with reliable data.
But in a cheap p-b binding. I've bought $100 books that were pretty but did not have 1/4 of the useful information of this unassuming little book.I purchased my copy from the author at the Shador Armory show in DC years ago.THIS BOOK is a BARGAIN,3 months after buying this book, I found a PAIR of Russian Empire storm lamps in an antique mall in Virginia for $350(mislabeled as Victorian)With this book alone, I identified the silver marks as St. Petersburg 1798, They later sold for $5500 the pair.----Thank you Paul!----This book is a MUST-HAVE,I go to this one first and last. There are only two works on Russian silver marks worth owning, and this is one.(the other is L'orfevrerie Et La Bijouterie au XV-XX ss. Moscow 1995 Rare Rare Rare forget about it)

3.0 out of 5 stars Some disappointment, March 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I expected something more for the money I have paid for this book. Short list of masters and only limited number of hallmarks. There are certainly better books about Russian (empire) silver hallmarking. Probably those are a bit more expensive but definitely better not speaking about the M. Postnikova-Loseva exceptional work on silversmithing in the territory of former Russian Empire.
