5.0 out of 5 stars Useful Guide, July 13, 2011
This review is from: Guide To Seldom Seen Animals (Paperback)
Do mysterious things happen at your house? By mysterious I mean things like missing socks, car keys and candies. You get the picture, right? Thanks to this guide, now I know and you will too that who is responsible for them.

Next time you get a situation where someone asks, "Where did my XXX go?" you will have a definite answer to that question.

I read this to my 6-year-old cousin and he was enthralled with the pictures; he ran his little hand over them like he wanted to touch and feel them.

I am so glad that the animals were not scary looking. One of them looks like Baby Bop from Barney and the Friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, June 24, 2011

Kelly (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Guide To Seldom Seen Animals (Paperback)
This short children's novel gives a creative childlike idea of the common and minor irritations in life. It gives an imaginative explanation for some of the smallest things, like a missing sock in the dryer, pages in a book sticking together, etc, by telling of these various creatures. These creatures are rarely seen though which is why very few people actually blame them. Most don't even realize they exist. Basically, Frey gives you something to blame for all of your daily irritants, yet it is something your child could easily understand and still get enjoyment out of!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Creative and Amusing Read for Children, June 23, 2011
This review is from: Guide To Seldom Seen Animals (Paperback)
Summary-

This short story provides a glimpse into the mischievous affairs of fictional unseen "animals." It even gives the reader insight on multiple species and how they affect everyday life. The use of pictures allow the imagination to stretch even further and captivate you to read on.

Review-

I really enjoyed the light humor in this fictional story because of how one can relate certain events to my everyday life. Bob Frey's book is one that I can recommend due to the entertaining segments on animals that supposedly hide the keys that your mother can't find, make noises in the car that drive your father crazy, and steal that one sock out of the dryer. Very funny and imaginative book!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book has the answers!!, July 25, 2011
This review is from: Guide To Seldom Seen Animals (Paperback)
The title of this book caught my eye. The book talks about the different types of 'animals' that are responsible for many, many, many, many unexplainable happenings in and around the house.

I really like the fact that the author has found a way to identify the creatures and tell us who is responsible for what. Hopefully this will save many, many, many, many families around the world from squabbling about missing keys, candies, holes in socks.... No more listening to people getting out of breath and accusing each other for irritating mysteries in our lives. For this reason, it would be a good idea to have this translated in as many languages as possible. I can already imagen how funny it would be to hear what Ooey Gooey has done around the world. For example in Arabic, it would sound like: Laa Laa! Ooey Gooey!" (translation: No no! Ooey Goey!) or in Hindi: "Ooey Goey nay mayree kitab kharaab kar dee thi!" (translation: Ooey Gooey messed up my book!")

It is a noble act to save a family from painfully squabbling over missing car keys and this book deserves international recognition and applause!

5.0 out of 5 stars Blame them with caution!, July 22, 2011
This review is from: Guide To Seldom Seen Animals (Paperback)
Thanks to Professor Blinkalot's 25 years of research, now we know who is behind so many mysteries that happen around us - the missing car keys, the missing crayons, the mystery o f the broken pencil points, the list goes on and on.

No, it is not the naughty little gremlins, it is a group of animals that have been very seldom seen. These animals are invisible, microscopic, lighting-fast and nocturnal making it almost impossible to catch them.

One word of caution: Even though these animals are responsible for a lot of mysterious happenings, DO NOT blame them for all the mysteries at the your home. Your little brother or sister might have a hand in it; So blame them with caution!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very funny and creative book, July 6, 2011
This review is from: Guide To Seldom Seen Animals (Paperback)
The main idea is that `things' are done for which no one in the family can be blamed; the idea is sheer genius! This guide is very creative, the characters are funny and their names are self explanatory.

If your house is like my home, then I am sure you and others in the family get in trouble for things that no one seems to know who did them. Now the disappearance of socks, cookies from the cookie jar, stains on clothes, etc can be explained through this guide.

All-in-all, the book will make you laugh. It is highly recommended for children 9-12 years of age.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Source to Boost Encyclpedic Knowledge about Rare Creatures, July 1, 2011
This review is from: Guide To Seldom Seen Animals (Paperback)
As a parent of three children who love to blame each other for little nuisances around the house, I couldn't help but smile after reading this highly entertaining book.

Initially, I felt I should hide this book from my kids as I know they will be using this `encyclopedia' to blame one of the animals identified for a situation where I question their hand in. I know the answer would be something like," Well, you know Ooey Goey must have done it!" I cringe at the thought of something smart-alecky from my Three Prankateers!

Oh, well I guess I can put up with such comments at the expense of them continuing their interest in books and having a laugh together.

4.0 out of 5 stars Full of Wild Imagination, June 27, 2011
This review is from: Guide To Seldom Seen Animals (Paperback)
When I first opened Guide to Seldom Seen Animals I was slightly skeptical about how it would appeal to children younger than myself. I thought at first that the existence of such creatures may frighten small children and make them afraid that the bumps in the night were caused by a fantastic monster that might take an interest in them when they got bored with their usual tasks. However, after reading a bit more I was quite content to know that the story, which is more of a silly encyclopedia, seemed jovial enough. The author realized my fears and repeatedly told the reader that none of the creatures would harm a human being, except through harmless practical jokes. With that out of the way I began to appreciate the fantastical descriptions of animals unseen to the human world.

Though this idea has been visited upon by other authors, the descriptions and concepts of the creatures remain original and well thought out. Many authors have attempted this type of endeavor and been lost in the sea of unoriginal writings.

In conclusion, this book will appeal to any child with an active imagination. I would recommend this book to any child with a wild imagination and a will to be read to, seeing as the lack of a real story may not hold younger children's attention span.

5.0 out of 5 stars Guide to Seldom Seen Animals by Bob Frey, June 26, 2011
This review is from: Guide To Seldom Seen Animals (Paperback)
I thought this book was hilarious. Now I know what happens to all those missing socks from the washer. And next time Mom scolds me for making a mess, I can just remind her of the critters that are really to blame. My favorite seldom seen animal is The Fast Fingered Fleck. Finally, an explanation as to the whereabouts of all the missing items our family has. I would definitely read this book. You will laugh your head off.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ooey Goey Got My Homework!, June 22, 2011
By
This review is from: Guide To Seldom Seen Animals (Paperback)
Description: Have you ever wondered how odd things that seem to happen all the time? This book is going to tell you, who and how they do it. This book is about animals who are always playing pranks on your family and friends. Now I bet you are wondering who found them? Well Professor H. I. Blinkalot who spent over 25 years doing study on them.

Review: All of the creatures in this book are very awesome! The thing that I loved about this book is that it gives you someone to blame (instead of blaming yourself). I thought that it was a very creative idea. Creatures' behavior, habitats and what they did was very funny. I loved the authors' bios at the end of the story. I wish that there will be a sequel to this book!

How I Relate: One day I was doing my homework (when I was in 3rd grade) and I left to go to the bathroom. When I got back and opened my notebook to resume my homework, the pages were glued together. Ooey Goey was at work!
