5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Guide to do the GAPS Diet March 7, 2010
Format:Paperback
This book is an excellent companion book to Dr. Natasha Campbell McBride's Gut and Psychology Syndrome. I found Dr. NCM's book to be full of excellent information and in-depth discussion on the mechanisms of how the diet works, definitely you must read Dr. NCM's book to fully understand the goal which you are trying to accomplish which is to heal your gut dysbiosis.

However, I like to recommend that people start first with GAPS Guide (Simple Steps to Heal Bowels, Body and Brain) because the author breaks it down into easy steps to help you get started. The author also shares her own story, and another fantastic success story. I had heard about GAPS on the Nourishing Traditions forum I participated in, but did not think it was something I needed for myself as the main focus is autistic children. But then my husband was diagnosed with a digestive disorder and I had heard that GAPS addresses digestive disorders as well, so I ordered the books and began to study. As I read, I realized that my own issues could be addressed by embarking on the GAPS diet. I have been on GAPS for 90 days now, and have seen some great improvements to my health. Since my wild cravings are gone now that I'm avoiding all processed foods, I have lost weight. My blood sugar has stabilized and I'm not feeling those horrible shaky moments when I get hungry, and can wait longer to eat. My feet have stopped hurting, I can sleep 8-9 hours without waking up with a terrible backache in the morning, I'm thinking more clearly and my mild depression has lifted. I am encouraged to continue with hopes that my energy level will rise as more healing occurs in my gut. The best way to buy these books is to buy the set Gut and Psychology Syndrome and GAPS Guide (2 Books). Good luck in your journey to healing!

1.0 out of 5 stars Rip-off May 13, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I can't believe they have the gall to publish this book, let alone at the price. The GAPS book is almost 400 pages, and this one is just basically the Cliff Notes for that book (160 pages) -- amateurishly typeset and published.

Yet it's sold at $1 less than the original book. I thought it might be a less scholarly re-framing of the original, more easily digestible, appropriately enough, but no -- it's just notes I could take myself. No contribution. It contains many abbreviations ("SCD" for example) and nowhere, not even in a footnote, are they explained.

In addition, it's full of British-isms. Recipe items are listed in grams and liters, and one instructs you to add "tonnes of vegetables". They didn't bother to edit for an American edition.

I'm livid. I was duped into paying $30 for this book, and it's absolutely nothing but a rip-off of the real book, and of the customer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very informative September 22, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I really appreciate this book. While I haven't purchased the orginal Gut and Psychology Syndrome book, this guide gave me enough information to start the GAPS protocol right away. The author also includes some great online resources for recipes and questions you may have. I recommend this to anyone wanting to start GAPS in the near future. I didn't give it 5 stars because it isn't laid out clearly enough for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful!
The GAPS diet is complicated to sort out, or seems so because there is so much information to take in. This book helps put the diet into steps that are easy to follow.

I'll be honest-- I have not read GAPS (by Dr. Campbell-McBride) yet. I have it (my brother is borrowing it) and I have read some of it, but not all of it. Read more
