Born in Farnborough, UK, home to the fast-jet Red Arrows, Barry graduated with a BSC in Psychology, a Masters in Work Psychology, and a PhD in Human Reliability Assessment, which concerns predicting future behavior using psychological techniques and data. He has worked on the safety of nuclear power plants, offshore oil and gas platforms, and more recently air traffic, and publishes prolifically in the scientific safety arena. He lives just outside Paris in France, and writes Science Fiction short stories and novels. The psychological angle influences all his work, exploring where humanity is headed, but also how different aliens could be, not just in looks, but in their value structures and modes of thought and communication.
