From Library Journal
Epstein claims that this is the "first arts directory to provide comprehensive information on the theatre to the general public and to the theatre community." While his is the most comprehensive directory, The Lively Arts Information Directory , edited by Steven R. Wasserman (Gale, 1985. 2d ed.), would be a close competitor, though it lacks some categories of informationsuppliers of theatrical equipment and services, theatrical agents, and unionsthat Epstein includes. The newer reference does have broad scope, but it does not inspire confidence; omissions and careless editing are apparent. Because the volume's approximately 10,000 entries are organized alphabetically by locale, an index of organizations would have been helpful, but only names of individuals included in the entries have been indexed. The quantity of information offered is considerable, but the rather high price coupled with the presence of errors should give selectors pause. Theodore O.
