Book Description

July 10, 2007
Trapping has become somewhat of a lost art, but interest in the sport is as strong as ever thanks to a stable fur market and a growing need to control mammal populations or remove nuisance animals. In Guide to Trapping, Jim Spencer covers strategies for successfully harvesting popular species such as raccoon, muskrat, mink, otter, beaver, coyote, gray fox, red fox, bobcat, skunk, and opossum. His entertaining and informative writing will appeal to trappers of all levels. Spencer discusses trap styles and the basics of establishing and working a trapline, including techniques for fastening and adjusting traps and a species-by-species review of trapping tactics for the country s most pursued furbearers. The field-tested techniques, carefully explained and illustrated, will help trappers make sets that deliver maximum results.

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice basic book, October 7, 2007
By
This review is from: Guide to Trapping (Paperback)
If you are looking for a book that describes the basics tools and equipment along with some basic sets and animal information then you've found it. A Guide to Trapping is just what this book is. It's simple and does not over complicate trapping for your basic fur bearers. It's a good read and very informative and with good illustrations.

3.0 out of 5 stars Guide to Trapping by Jim Spencer, October 4, 2010
This review is from: Guide to Trapping (Paperback)
The book is much like the rest of the trapping books I have read; although the writer did add some humor that seems to missing from the lot of us that trap for a hobby to profession. In fact it got a chuckle out of me and my wife laughed about it too because his description of his reasons for trapping seemed match my personality rather well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comments about Jim Spencer's writing, December 5, 2010
This review is from: Guide to Trapping (Paperback)
I haven't read this book by Jim Spencer yet. But I have to say that if this book is anything like every trapping article I've ever read by him, it is an excellent book. Spencer has always had a way of saying things that gets right to the point, yet is enjoyable to read. I've read dozens of his articles in trapping magazines over the years and thoroughly enjoyed each one.

This review is by Wesley Murphey, author of "Conibear Beaver Trapping In Open Water"; "Blacktail Deer Hunting Adventures"; "A Homeless Man's Burden"; and coming soon- "Trouble at Puma Creek."
