5.0 out of 5 stars Embark on an Odyssey, July 15, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: A Guide for Using The Odyssey in the Classroom (Paperback)
This was a wonderful guide to lead my students through the complexities of Homer. This guide offers a number of fun activities that will guarantee student interest in this complicated piece of literature. Filled with historical information and cross-curriculum activities, I guarantee that people of all ages will find something vauable in this guide.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too simplistic, February 23, 2008
This review is from: A Guide for Using The Odyssey in the Classroom (Paperback)
Way too simplistic for high school with activities that seem only vaguely related to exploring this text in an English classroom (i.e. Roman numerals, recipies, "How to make a Trojan Horse"--not even in The Odyssey.) I will use none of this.

This review is from: A Guide for Using The Odyssey in the Classroom (Paperback)
When I found myself having to teach THE ODYSSEY to several groups of high school freshmen for the first time, I searched all around trying to scramble together enough resources to make Homer's classic epic relatable and interesting for students. Thanks to A GUIDE FOR USING THE ODYSSEY IN THE CLASSROOM, I didn't have to search too much. Published by a group known as Teacher Created Materials, Inc. (they publish very useful teacher's guides for many works of literature typically covered in a high school classroom), the book is full of information, activities, and ideas. The ideas in the book are truly cross-curricular as they not only touch upon literature, but also history, math, and art. I found this guide extremely useful and for anyone who has to teach THE ODYSSEY at the high school level, it's a book you will want to at least look through.
