The book is great as it exposes the injustices of prejudice.,

This review is from: A Guide for Using The Witch of Blackbird Pond in the Classroom (Paperback)
Witch of Blackbird Pond is excellent in showing young children the evils that surround rumor, gossip, and prejudice. As a sixth grade teacher, it is important to make young children aware that when people prejudge on the basis of what they hear and see, oftentimes it does not allow reality to become an important issue. Children need the opportunity to find the truth for themselves that prejudice reduction is the topic they need to address. This book is an absolute must and they will enjoy being transported back into time, to learn that acceptance of different people has not really changed.

This book is a classic. The main character, Kit, is a strong role model for society today. She shows that through perseverance, she can overcome life's struggles. Through her struggles, she shows others around her that prejudice is unacceptable. It's a shame that because a book is written well and depicts the life and times of people from over three centuries ago, it's considered horrible and boring. I read this book over fifteen years ago, and read it again in college, and the book still has the same effect on me. It's still a favorite book, and I will recommend it to my students when I began teaching.

This is a simple, easy-to-use guide for teaching The Witch of Blackbird Pond. It saves time for the already overburdened teachers in that it has the vocabulary, reading comprehension, and tests already built in. Great for junior high.

The worst book I've ever read,

I personally hated this book. It was forced reading in my liturature class. The beginning was depressing and boring(not to mention the main character is not too smart). I do not suggest this book to anyone, especially not teachers.
