This is a huge, sturdy truck. We have a few now from this line, and they are just strong, solid trucks. No parts breaking off, no crazy noises. Just some good hauling around. They are also attractive and just pleasant to look at and kind of artful - so I don't mind if these are never really put away. This is the kind of toy that makes it easy to walk away from the toy isle - you already have a great truck at home, so why shop around for more? Big thumbs up.

Let me start by accentuating the positives of this big truck: I bought it (and the Guidecraft Crane) for my 2˝ year old son. They are certainly large, heavy, "fun" vehicles that can't be ignored. The plywood construction seems relatively durable and is certainly a far cry from the brightly colored, often cheaply constructed plastic toys. The moving parts are kept to a minimum, and are heavy-duty enough in design that I expect they'll be relatively abuse-resistant over time. The truck comes with a wooden "driver" figure (similar to the old Fisher Price figures with a head and itty-bitty ball arms, but no legs/feet). The pile of "logs" that come with this truck are a toy in their own right, and have become drum sticks, noise makers, canes, umbrellas, and who knows what else.

The trailer has an ingeniously simple trailer stand that deploys to allow the truck to detach, and the trailer to sit on its own (just like a real trailer). When reconnected to the truck, the stand folds up and is held in place with embedded magnets. The truck itself is articulated (pivot between the front and back wheels), to make it even more maneuverable. The wood wheels are covered with a spiky plastic/rubber "tread" material that make the vehicle run quiet on hard floors. The bright red cargo cover is simply a nice touch to finish off the toy.

So how does a toy like this possibly miss?

For starters, the packaging stinks. When I opened the log truck, the six zip ties that secured it to the cardboard box packaging had completely ripped free, allowing the truck to rattle around the box while in UPS's possession.
