3.0 out of 5 stars Don't let your child stand inside!, August 28, 2010

This review is from: Guidecraft: Yankees Toy Box (Pine) (Electronics)
I like everything about this toy box except for 2 minor details ~ the thin, flimsy bottom provided in the kit and the poorly written assembly instructions. My niece who is 1 year old and weights less than 35 lbs will never be able to stand/sit inside this toy box. With that said there are many good things about this toy box. The lid has 2 safety hinges to save little fingers. The bench-style seat is sturdy and large enough for an adult to sit on. A true NY Yankee fan will appreciate the excellent quality of the NY logo & the true to NY Yankee color.

The size is a little deceiving - My niece has just a few toys at my house & we've already filled it to the lid.

I would recommend this to a friend.

1.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Would Not Recommend This Item, January 5, 2010

I absolutely would not recommend buying this toy box, and I will review it wherever it is sold so that people can take my experience into consideration.

After receiving this as a gift, I assembled it right away. It took a bit of time, but was fairly painless as I have a lot of experience assembling things. From my experience, I know that it isn't too uncommon for there to be an error in how the item is to be setup. I wasn't completely shocked when I realized that the hinges were installed on the wrong side of the lid (so that the NY would be upside down), however I was frustrated as that is the last piece you are instructed to install. There was no way of knowing this piece was incorrect since the instructions are very simple and in black and white. I called ToysRUs where the item was purchased. They were very helpful, and sent a new one, as well as arranged for the pickup of the first, incorrect one. I was excited today to learn that the new one arrived, and I started working on it as soon as I got home. My original plan was to take the new lid, and use it on the first toy box since I had already done all of the other assembly. Then I realized that the hinges didn't line up and were completely different than the other box. So I decided I would put the whole new box together after all. As I began to organize the hardware, I realized that too was different from the first box. I started with step one, and didn't get any farther. I tried everything I could to make this work, but the screws were the wrong sizes and wouldn't latch the way they were supposed to. I could put the box together with a screw missing here and there, and it still seems pretty sturdy, but I cannot justify doing this, and I am so annoyed with this toy box that I just want to return and be done with it!

As with any other item, you have to read all the reviews and decide it if it is worth it to you. You may be willing to take the chance that you may just be wasting your time, or you may have this toy box and completely disagree with this review, but I just wanted to make sure that people know what my experience was with this toy box before they decide to spend the money and the time on it.
