Product Description

Two hundred years ago, the Betrayer, Shiro Tagachi, transformed the lush continent of Cantha into a devastated landscape of stone forests and crystalline seas. Now, in a land torn asunder by war, who you fight is as important as who you serve. While Kurzicks and Luxons battle for ever-decreasing resources, a horrible plague threatens the very existence of an empire still reeling from the betrayal that nearly destroyed it two centuries earlier.

Join with players from around the world to battle for the future of Cantha--a complex empire dominated by bureaucracy and strife, living under the shadow of an ancient evil.

Guild Wars Factions is the second stand-alone release from developer ArenaNet, and features a new world, new mechanics, and new professions.

Buy this game! Guild wars has amazing graphics and a intresting combat engine. I have not played the PvP section of the game, yet, only the role-playing section. Guild wars is an fun and interesting game. Amazing graphics. You can see every detail in your players body. I im a hardcore gamer and belive me this game has amazing graphics. The game is a solid built MMORPG destined to be on of the greatest games of the year. Some of the monsters can be overwelming though. I usually travel with some henchmen. You can also get help from friends on quests. Buy this game.

The great thing with any of the Guild Wars MMOs is that once you buy the game, you'd don't have to pay another cent, which really works on those months where the $14.99 you pay with others makes a difference in the budget. Now, you can spend more as the business model here is selling you upgrades (spell access, more bank slots, etc.) for real money. Pay a couple of bucks and you don't have to quest to get access to all those spells you want, pay a few more and get more bank slots to store stuff in. None of it's expensive, in fact, it's well priced, but do be aware of it when you buy the game - you don't *have* to pay more, you just probably will.

At it's core, this game is pretty much just a multi-player dungeon crawler. All the adventuring zones are instanced for your group and each zone has defined paths through it - even the outdoor zones are this way. Want to jump off that cliff? Nope. Swim that river? Not gonna happen. You'll go through the way the designers laid it out. Now, this is not always a bad thing - unlike WoW or EQ, you're not going to spend half your time trying to find the Loc of the NPC on some web page - you'll be herded right to it. The classes are nicely balanced for adventuring (if not always for PVP) and the graphics are nice - not quite as nice as say, EQ2, but more detailed than WoW. Also, the game designers did a very good job getting you up to speed with quests that naturally follow one another to get you leveled and decent equipment. Also, this game is a very good one for the soloer. When you go adventuring, you can choose to take along a group of NPCs - a ranger, a healer, and a caster for instance - that you can control and are part of your group.

On its own, Factions is a good role-playing and PvP MMORPG. And only in Factions can you create the assassin and ritualist professions.

The plague-infested streets in the beginning of the role-playing game are dull, but the landscapes get much better once you're out of town. The storyline is interesting, but not as good as Prophecies or Nightfall. So when I created my assassin, I played Factions long enough to collect a few good skill combos then took the character to Nightfall.

If you enjoy PvP then you'll get into the alliance battles where teams on opposing sides play territorial games to redraw the battlemap for their guild's chosen faction. Some find it fun, I feel PvP is frustrating. Thus I give the game a fun-factor rating of 3 stars. Overall I give 5 stars for the excellent graphics, character development, skills and role-playing options, which include challenge missions (great fun).

The best part about ANY Guild Wars game is there's no monthly fee...just buy the game. The Guild Wars online store is available in the login user interface, and offers special game upgrade purchases at reasonable prices.

Have played the Guild Wars series aince it started 5 years ago.
I own them all and have given many as gifts to others who in turn have brought more new players into a game series where once you buy the game; there is no more cost to play. No monthly fees and lot's of new content being added as the games get older. Now I wait for the new Guild Wars 2 to come out and will play it along with my older favorites in this series.
Try them; I am sure you will like them all.
Amazon has always been great in getting me all my purchases promptly and they have dealers who go far above the normal call of duty to get them where they belong; when they belong there.

Basically this game is very good for when you don't have or don't want to spend the money on any other game. I've played basically every other mmo and this one is a little more laid back, less serious, while still keeping the fun up. Endgame is kind of lacking though, as all you can really do is those elite missions and more pvp.

I bought this as a present for a friend. I have been playing all four campaigns for nearly two years now and still find it engrossing. One of the BEST features is that you do NOT pay a monthly fee, (sometimes as much as $50) to play a game you OWN.
