5.0 out of 5 stars Platinum Edition
This platinum edition is just a bundle of three offerings: 1) Prophecies (1st campaign), 2) Factions (2nd campaign that this product is based on), and 3) Bonus Missions Pack.

There is only ONE CD-key to type in, and after all the downloads are done, you will have access to all three. See [...] for a testimony from a recent buyer.

1.0 out of 5 stars It has it's highs and lows, but it's not for everyone
Guild Wars Factions and Guild Wars Prophecies. How can I describe them? Well basically like this. It's a single or multiplayer game with a heavy emphasis on grouping up with other players to progress through the game. See the individual product pages (search for Guild Wars Prophecies, Guild Wars Factions) for more info on the game themselves, since the stuff there are quite comprehensive and need not be duplicated here.

5.0 out of 5 stars MMORPG without all the BS., May 5, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Guild Wars Factions Platinum (DVD-ROM)
Guild Wars is a sweet MMORPG for those of us who don't wanna put up with all the crap WOW brings. There are no monthly fees to play online, no spawn killing, and it has a much more reasonable level cap (I hit it within 4 weeks of casual playing) meaning that skill determines victory more so than time invested. The ability to teleport to any town you've previously visited cuts out more WOW BS, I shouldn't have to walk everywhere or wait for public transportation in a game. The game also provides computer henchman you can have accompany so you don't suffer from not having a full party when your friends aren't on or if you just don't like playing with randoms. Factions provides two new character classes, the Assassin and the Ritualist providing even more diversity to the game. Factions also has its own missions and lands that become connected to the original game when it is installed. All in all a great investment for those who wanna try an MMORPG without the commitment required of WOW.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest MMORPG ever!, August 14, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Guild Wars Factions Platinum (DVD-ROM)
Guild Wars is the greatest Massive Multiplayer Online Roll Playing Game that I've come accross. It's a cheap game to buy, and it's free online play. The run rating of this game I can easily rate through the rough. If you're familiar with the game World of Warcraft, I would definitely suggest this. Several of my friends have quit that game to play this. WoW can be very expensive: $15, as well as other games or online services can be say $5 a month. This game is free play. And with the expansions to the game the fun is easy double, tripple...ect. I have all of the games now, and they don't get old. I've been playing it for over 3 years now. Note that the game is for people of all ages around 13 years of age and older. I would definitely suggest this game. Especially if you can get Prophecies (core game) and Factions (first expansion) WITH a bonus mission pack for a price as low as this. I am amazed. Already have the Prophecies but want Factions, so you're concerned about having two prophecies: sadly, the code will just overwrite the other, so you won't have two prophecies...sorry to burst your bubble.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game, July 29, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Guild Wars Factions Platinum (DVD-ROM)
I love the Guild Wars series, and have been playing for over 4 years. They are constantly updating the game to improve skills, weapons, armor, and quests. One of the things I really like is being able to jump in and start playing without having to spend an hour or more micromanaging every aspect of the game like some other MMORPGs.

I love GW. My friends and I will play for hours. Might not be as fun by oneself. I enjoy it more with other players. Luckily there are thousands on-line to have fun with.

1.0 out of 5 stars It has it's highs and lows, but it's not for everyone, May 6, 2009
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars

Guild Wars Factions and Guild Wars Prophecies. How can I describe them? Well basically like this. It's a single or multiplayer game with a heavy emphasis on grouping up with other players to progress through the game. On it's own the the game itself is nothing break through when compared to other RPG games. The story isn't told very well, and it gives you little motivation to see what's next.

To sum it up the story is bland and generic. This for both Prophecies and Factions seems to be a plague that carries over from each expansion. Story telling aside the game itself looks great. Excellent attention to detail, and that's more or less the strong point of the game. Everything is extremely well detailed which is one of the better parts of the game.

Game play wise you will either love the concept of hate it. You have a limit of 8 skills to use, and this is where the game loses points. You may have over 50 skills but all you can equip are 8. This will leave you in situations where you either brought the right tools or your straight out of luck. 9 out of 10 times it's the later of the two. PVP is just a game of Russian roulette. Who ever brought the better skill set wins. For me this was a great turn away from the game, as it didn't make game play feel so free as the world I was playing in. Limiting the abilities of your character may sound challenging, but when you play a class that chains skills like assassins do than it easily becomes repetitious. Another fun fact I should add is that solo play or 1 on 1 with enemies is non existent. You must fight team play in this game. You must fight as a group with your npc's with the party you made, your guild or whatever, but if you think your going to pick this game up and be Conan The Barbarian think again. There will be groups of 15-30 monsters attacking you at once. This for me I also found as a drawback, and made me feel like my character wasn't so heroic. What hero needs a group of 8 other people to back them up? Aren't you supposed to me mighty and powerful? It's a big drawback to the game unless your gung ho on forming groups or giving NPC's commands.

As with any online game the community makes or breaks it. Depending on your age, if you're a younger player you will be head over heels as the age group of players is usually 8-15. If you're an older player 20 and up and you've passed the middle school level of maturity the community will drive you nuts. You'll spend most of your LFG (looking for group) time reading the thoughts of pre-pubescent children. You can expect mostly vulgar toilet humor, n00b this n00b that, and the likes. It does and will get old, thankfully you have the option of turning chat off.

Overall I Guildwars is an online RPG game masked as an MMO to the unknowing. This game is the prime choice for people that don't want to pay and play games like World of Warcraft. Matter of fact a majority of children that play this game are playing because their parents won't pay for them to play games like WoW that have monthly fees. This is the reason why a majority of players are young children. As an online RPG if your looking to end your loneliness by playing with other players this may fit the bill but, this game lacks what makes an mmo a mmo. This is just a standard RPG game that allows for you to interact with other players online. It's boring, repetitive, and for what it is there are much much much better RPG's games you can play out there, and If it's an MMO you truly want there are plenty of free online REAL mmo's that you can play. Guildwars is a mediocre online RPG with pretty graphics...matter of fact the graphics are all that this game has going for it. It's like a Ferrari with no engine. Hey, it can't go anywhere and you certainly can't drive it around but at least it's still pretty to look at...blah! absolutely worthless you still have to take the bus to work. Why punish yourself go find what you really want, and I doubt it's a game as lacking as this.
