This review is from: Guillaume Lekeu: Cello Sonata in F major / Three Pieces (Audio CD)
.This is a welcomed re-release of a 1999 disc on the delightful Belgian label Cypres. Guillaume Lekeu (1870-94)--pupil of Franck and D'Indy--was an extremely talented artist who, had he lived, would have surely been a major name in French music. Too unfortunately he died young, leaving only a handful of works. On the other hand, the works left us are exquisite chamberworks of major proportions. See too: String Quartets & Piano Quartet ; Guillaume Lekeu: Quatuor; Molto Adagio ; Lekeu: Piano Quartet; Piano Trio ; Chausson Concerto & Lekeu Sonata ; Alberic Magnard | Guillaume Lekeu: Violin Sonatas , etc. This disc features Lekeu's cello Sonata in the pastoral key of F-major (1888) [:48mins]; plus some lovely piano pieces: I Song without Words; II Waltz of Consolation; III Dance of Jollity. .
